Lampizator Valve / Tube Rolling Review Thread

Kinda pretty too…DC99C9D3-217F-4E94-BA29-BD27F748FA57.jpeg

I have some OS tubes with UV4 base pins (not UX4) ie all same size, not 2 fat filament pins in front. I have adapters on order but it may be awhile getting them. I think I saw on one of the threads here that you can still use them without adapters even though the front 2 filament pins aren’t tight?

Any comments/experience with this? Should I just be patient and wait?

I am elevating RD27AS to my list of great tubes.

At the moment it is just sounding magic.

I'll probably change my mind;)

No, on balance, it is in there. I have finally made my mind up!:)

Glad you are enjoying the RD27AS.

Any comment on my question above?

None. I might if you describe exactly what that tube is. Show me a radiomuseum or the like link to its spec.
I was holding back before the reveal. I tried to send the telepathic message across the ocean but I guess my range is inadequate :)

I will be patient for my adapters.

Cool. Let's hope this is the best tube in your collection by a factor of 249.8%, but is of course completely unobtanium for anyone else.

Always the best kind;)

WE 101FA and with UV4 to UX4 adapters
3 are from 1950 and the other is 1958. The older have the less prominent labeling. Test NOS according to seller but are used OS.

LF says to use the 45 heater setting for these.

They are as quiet as the Philco ST shaped 01a for me.
Measured gain is within 1db of the other 300b types - Shuguang 300b, TJ 300b, RCA 112a globe and ST, Philco ST 01a, Cunningham ST and globe 01a.

Sounds good so far.

Bass - so far the biggest difference with the WE 101fa- midrange seems comparable to Philco ST 01a -and treble sweet and extended -as expected with OS Western Electric types, and black background is still there which is critical for me. I did not expect the improvement in bass though.

Still evaluating…

I am pretty much a rock, bluegrass, country, southern rock guy for context.
Can’t help my roots after all.

I do classical and jazz but infrequent.

I edited the original pic above- these guys have earned a pic label in my book.

Bass… and Bono.. and Edge…

very nice 0B124DE4-7476-4108-AF03-5164EA4430C1.jpeg

So I am running RD27AS on B4 to UX-4 adapters into UX-4 to UX-4 adapters (lifesavers) into the chassis mounted sockets.

This seems to have some merit as it keeps the valves away from the chassis electronics and provides a bit of extra damping against vibration.

Me likey. Also makes the RDs even more immense looking.

Cross post..

The RD27AS + Tak 274B combo in my Pacific is glorious. I wonder what other rectifier I should try.

Tried it with WE274b engraved base? You have it right?

I have tried a few rectifier tubes including: Mullard GZ34, ACME 274b, RK5u4g, EML5u4g, Cossor 53Ku and the magicial GZ480, so far nothing can compare with GZ480 which give anything more 'alive' and dymanic, unfortunately, i cant find any GZ480 available on the market now and looking for something as backup, any other option which is as good as GZ480 or even better to pair with the RK242? Thx Guys

I’ve found the RCA 5R4GY JAN CRC (WWII) and 596 to be a great combo. I got the RCA idea from Brent Jessee’s site, where it’s considered among the very best of the old tubes (three character date code). The prized RCA has double-D getters at V angle to each other either up or down. After some listening, I preferred the RCA in the TRP and 596 in a Supratek preamp. That said, I found RK242 Anniversary to be unlistenable, so the RCA & 596 may not satisfy you.

Thanks and is it due to the high gain issue commonly found in RK242 which made you feel unlistenable? I think the RK 242 is a powerful and dynamic tube which perfectly match with GZ480 in GG2 to get that “alive” tone, All of the others tube I tried are too “slow” when compare with this combo, really want to find something similar as backup,
