Love taking pics of the gear

Sounds like you have great tubes!

I would suggest though with something like the Jackson 648P (stupid simple to use and gives you useful info) or even my military TV-7's, they don't require a radio veteran to use them properly nor derive extremely useful info.

I'm amazed at how accurate my Jackson is with its simple "good or bad" scale when compared to the TV-7.

Sorry, dont wanna highjack this thread here. But certain tubes have complete different specs how they need to be tested, like warm-up phase etc and therefore any kind of tube measuring systems are far way more accurate. Of course for testing tubes onces every year it is fine to use basic tester, but many of good vintage ones are expensive and if you are not an electricians I'd be very careful..especially high power tubes like 211, 805a etc. My roetester v11 was build by an experienced tube nerd and costs €2k and should be worhwhile by anyone having more expensive tubes...look around, tubes getting redicilous expensive...

You certainly deserve your nickname (audio "geek") and I can assure you that I don't say this condescendingly - I am a bit of a geek myself, but more on the "software" side of things. I think it's great to develop a deep understanding of the "hardware" we use (my understanding is very limited). So kudos.

Thank you. Much appreciated.

The time I spend with audio gear - and especially learning about and taking care/testing of the tubes I receive is really the only time in my life my mind slows down just a bit. I find it peaceful and a little place of sanity.

I don’t think that you could take a bad picture of that turntable if you tried………

I love the contrast between the scale of the very fine nude Colibri and massive stainless steel base and the thin thread driving the massive platter. The elementary form and single material create some wonderful plays of light and shadow and texture.

Just arrived today: a Western Electric tester.

It looks like a Hickok 539B - but it was built by Hickok in small numbers for Western Electric to WE's much higher specs and requirements. This unit is meant to really and properly test WE tubes such as the 300B, 45, 2A3, etc more properly and throughly than the Hickoks.

I spent about 3 hours cleaning it with a toothbrush today taking off decades of grime and it's looking pretty good!

Here is a very nice "B" version of the I-177-B I just received.

These are usually in terrible condition as they were mostly used and mfg during WWII and Korea.

I'm going to spend several hours cleaning this one and testing it to see how it aligns.
