Yes, well aware of that. I guess if I need to explain it, it’s not a joke.

Curious if the S5 is worth the upgrade from S3
Haha. I haven’t listened to the S5 yet. But in general, regardless of what materials your woofers are made of, especially if you’re using the same material design, you can get lower harmonic distortions from the bass drivers if they’re bigger. So at the very least the S5 would have slightly cleaner, less distorted bass than S3 because of the upgrade from 9” to 10” woofers. And of course the larger woofers can move more air so it’ll be easier to play louder too. This is just taking about the woofer upgrade alone. Now whether that is worth the cost of trade in and upgrade is a harder question to answer.

I could move air by adding my 2 rel 32's
Maybe somone that heard both will chim in before I do another upgrade .

I’ve heard them both. I think the biggest thing to consider is your listening room. If you have a larger room, these larger woofers and incredibly damped cabinet will make a massive difference

Well thank you Mr. Mackay!

Got the call today that a pair of Magico S5 2024's is heading my way tomorrow (11/6/24). Will be traveling all next week so hopefully will have them available for install the week of November 18th.

Has anyone else waiting for S5's received an update on delivery?

According to my dealer, my pair of S5s is on its way, having been shipped from Magico to New York. From there, they will be sent to my dealer in Israel, and then to me. If all goes smoothly, I should receive them by early December.

That is good news indeed. Hopefully there will be no delays and you will be breaking them in soon. Looking forward to your first impressions. Cheers.

Magico S5 2024, serial numbers 41 & 42, arrived at my place earlier today (11/19/24). Big thank you to the people (Jeff, Jess, Taylor and Brad) at Soundings in Denver, CO.

Breakin has commenced. The most compelling initial impression is how "quiet" they sound. A "black hole" from which only music can escape.

Utterly transparent as a result of the remarkable lengths Magico has gone to quell anything extraneous from getting between the music and the listener. With only a few hours of playing, antithetically, the speakers sound simultaneously massive and tight.

Based on my experience with the A5, these will take a while to open up and reveal their essential character. For those interested, please stay tuned for updates.

At first, I thought new S1 or S7? Can’t tell. I presume the other two speakers are S3 and S5.

And then I thought about it some more...

The right speaker has baffle and feet that looks like an S series. But the front corner doesn't look like a typical S3 or S5. In fact, it reminds me of the S1. Except the speaker has a tweeter, a midrange and two woofers. Given Magico's current range of drivers, assuming they're not going to make even more for this specific speakers what could it be?

Because now I'm thinking S2 with similar drivers as the A3 and M2, aka. 1" tweeter, 6" midrange and two 7" woofers. Or something along those lines. And then the cabinet construction is more similar to S1 instead of S3/S5.

Regardless we will find out December 2, 2024.

Haven’t seen this posted on WBF. Here you go…
Yes. Very interesting because the drivers (5" & 7") look like they're even better than M2. And the enclosure is built more like S1 than the S3/S5. But then M2 still has carbon fibre monocoque and even less diffraction with the baffle so...

Personally, even though many people said the new 5"/6" midrange for A5, S3/S5 sound better than the older midranges but I don't really hear it compared to the 6" driver of the M2. The 9" woofer of the A5/S3 definitely sounds like they have less distortion than previous generation drivers.

I can’t imagine the S2 being less than exceptional in its price/performance range. I know first hand how good the S3 is and now that I’ve had the S5 running in for 300+ hours in my room I can say with confidence the S5 is a step beyond the S3.

It is interesting that the construction of the S2 cabinet incorporates a single continuous extrusion as in the S1 but it is demonstrably different. Now the S2 has a full length vertical brace inboard from the front baffle. An impressive design element that should contribute significantly to its sound or lack of sound, that is. Certainly the effort to eliminate cabinet coloration (distortion) in the design of the S series is a significant component of their exceptional performance (and fundamental to Magico’s design strategy in general). The continuous extrusion in the S2 cabinet may prove to be something special.
