Charming comment in someone's thread about the speaker he is buying.

Ever heard of the saying, if you have nothing nice to say...

Seriously poor form.

Oh--did'nt realize someone was actually buying them-- yes sincere apology to the Gentleman in question.

I still don't like them

I believe you need to see them in person to appreciate how stunning they are. The pic gives a VERY different impression, because it is flat: even me, who loves the Ultimate's look, the pic leaves me indifferent. I saw them at CES with more than 10 people (some of them not audio fans at all). All of them were blown away and said it is a piece of modern art.

But anyway, it is always the same with products only a few can afford... take Ferrari, you will always find people who find them ugly

a borderline comment ... I am a little surprised as I appreciate your posts

I can't afford an Aston Martin One 77 and I find it beautiful (much beautiful than most of the Ferrari ;))

the Ultimate ? the picture must be a real bad one, the white part reminds me to a kitchen tub

and I thought that this forum is about the sound ... oh well.

Personally, if I find a product that does not appeal to my taste, I simply leave the thread/discussion alone and don't bother to interrupt. It serves no real purpose.

I'd love to have a pair of those speakers.

Yeah but where you going to put them? ;)

I would love to hear them. the driver compliment with the bass horn on top reminds me of one of my all-time faves the jadis eurythmie. Alon's version looks to have an active bass driver for the low bass and separate sub (?).

The sub is a separate product.

Even if the sound outstanding:

1- My wallet can't handle them.
2- All but my largest room can't handle them.
3- My eyes can't handle them

You missed 4- high chance of many neanderthals all of a sudden attacking that obelisk of a speaker with bones :)
Comment only works going by that photo as it is not the best one I have seen for the design.

But as large horns go, I prefer this to many of the other designs.
Cheers

Actually now that the second photo was added it looks less appealing from the side.

Aren't we touchy when someone questions the design of a product. I have owned some odd looking speakers such as 802D's and a couple of different MBL's and never worried what others thought. If I am going to be looking at something in my room for 8 hours a day then it better suit my visual tastes no matter how great it sounds.

wait until you see the video, this speaker is awesome!

Just to add.
Part of the challenge though is designing high quality large horns, in this respect I feel the Magico design is one of the best.
But then there will be those that prefer some of the German boutique large horn designs (quite a few of these look insane IMO :) ), or the very largest model of Tannoy/VOX Olympian/etc.

Cheers

that's a shame those things were not hooked up to electronics. Talk about a tease...
I think it would have been a shame to hook them to electronics in a crappy hotel room.... nothing to gain.
Alon should rather organize an event in his music room for us to listen to them, that would be cool!

Yes & Yes. I moved an expensive Great Sounding system from my loving home in one state to a temporary home in another state. Result - Great Sounding System became "what the f**K".

zz.

When you see the pic of speakers without a reference, it is difficult to appreciate the size. The Ultimate are maybe 2 times taller than the Jadis. Compare it with this pic:
http://www.stereophile.com/content/dr-tan-and-eurythmie
The Ultimate is nearly a full bandwidth horn, the conventional bass driver is used only below 120-130Hz and each of the 4 horns is covering a narrow frequency band.

The Jadis large horn is covering the 180-800Hz. They stretched the horn to go too low compared to its physical size, that's why it has quite a bit of horn coloration as it doesn't work in its optimal frequency band... like most horns on the market. I find it beautiful, but it doesn't sound very good...
