Munich HighEnd 2024

8 inch Scanspeak Ellipticor (I Believe Truels Gravesen was one of the betatesters of these during the research for it. For scanSpeak -not Kaisers version but still. speaks volumes).
Tbh, as Troels started to milk his commercial interests, his 'own' philosophy increasingly faded into the background.

FWIW:

Grande

Kawero%20by%20Kaiser%20Acoustics-Grande.png

The very impressive Kawero!® Grande is nearly 6 ft tall and is assembled of two separate cabinets – each speaker weighs approximately 509 lbs.

The rearfiring woofer is a 15” Audiotechnology with sandwich cone and 4” hybrid voice coil in a ported enclosure (Kawero Classic has 10” with 3” VC)

Midrange is a 8” Scan Speak Ellipticor with paper cone (Kawero Classic 6,5” AT with custom coated PP cone) Due to the increase in size and cone area we had to add a low midrange/upper bass unit in the front which is an AudioTechnology 12” with sandwich cone and 3” voice coil in closed box. Why closed box? Because we want to have very fast bass for basedrums and kickbass.

We also love our custom made new RAAL 70-20XR. Since our partnership with Audionote Kondo Japan we have the permission to use their famous silver cable for the primary windings of the RAAL transformer. This had a big improvement on the sound.
It does say that, yes…
I stand corrected.

The midrange in the Kawero Classic also had Steinmusic Maestro laquer applied to it.
Sort of like The Ennermoser famed C37 but differerent.
Must have worked well.

So, Sounstage reported slightly wrong then…or I read it wrong…

Kaiser, well as I read about them back I seem to remember that
Their main business is advanced, high-quality woodwork for meeting rooms, studios, acoustics etc. Loudspeaker production is a small part of their production and something they do out of pure passion due to the owner HJ Kaiser and the designer Rainer Weber. Weber has a doctorate in acoustics and is currently a director in the automotive industry and works at Continental with calculations of noise and acoustics.

They agreed sometime in the 90s that they should start with the production of loudspeakers and see how far they could take this. They are both connoisseurs and the speakers are made without any thought of cost.
This was said some 8 - 10 years ago,, I saw it on a nordic forum.

Its a one-off custom order, priced 65000 Euros, fully active, separate 800 Watts amplifier included, with 15 inch woofer and AMT tweeter.
I didn't get a chance to hear this one but I enjoyed their stand mounts.

I like the concept (somewhat similar to my own system, only smaller), but not the price.

A 15" + AMT is possible, though I can see why brands such as Göbel prefer to use smaller mids before the Mundorf.

Anyway, a suggestion for a 2 way similar to the WLM:

- Mundorf AMT U110W1.1
- This waveguide:

- This 15" in a 100-150l BR cabinet:

Crossed @ 1200-1500Hz.

It looks like WLM used the 18Sound AMT200P + the XMT200 horn (wrapped in carbon fiber foil):

At first I thought they used this woofer, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

This would be a much better match with the AMT and allows exceptionally low GD when properly tuned.1716263030193.png

Beyma makes a very nice AMT but use in the field suggests >2Khz crossover or it gets stressed. Never seen the 18 Sound driver in action before.

My cheapest " upgrade " might actually be buying 4 sets of matched 6550 output tubes .
The CAT JL5 can run on either KT 120 / 6550 / KT 88
I really like amps which run on 6550 s and KT 88
NOS 6550s are pricey but supposed to sound really good...haven't tried them myself though as I would be caught dead with an amp that runs those crappy tetrodes ;)

Still want to try one of his DTQWT designs…like my Hornings
Those were from the 8008 days. The 8008 is a nice midwoofer, but because of desirable parameters also quite fragile. In the DTQWT the 8008 decends in tandem with the rear mounted Eminence woofers, which may cause damage due to overexcursion at higher levels.

Some people have crossed the Beyma TPL150/H below 1500Hz, but it sounds better crossed >1800Hz, which rules out any woofer larger than 10". According to Vance Dickason the 18Sound can be used from 1000 Hz with (the much longer) diffraction horn.

Your 755s easily beat the TPL150/H below 1500Hz.

Over excursion of the 8008? What I have seen, having TQWT speakers, is that there is essentially no excursion on the midbass driver. I have the Supravox 215-2000 loaded into a TQWT and I have Horning Eufrodite Ellipse with a Lowther PM65A driver in a TQWT (with Beyma woofers on the back...also loaded into a TQWT...so like Troels DTQWT) and neither the Supravox nor the Lowther show visible excursion even with high level bass impulses. Neither of these drivers is particularly robust in terms of power handling or excursion limits.

The 12" was made to play deeper, not louder. I cannot stress this enough because we inevitably regard a bigger speakers as one that should be able to play louder. This is not the case for the 12" version. The 10" version features a 40 Hz horn (check impedance curve) where the 12" version with its more than 3 meter long horn takes us down to 30 Hz. The 8008 front driver carries the full signal and is part of the speaker's bass performance. Thus, the 8008 front driver does not have a high-pass filter, which has indisputable advantages but also limits power handling. The OBL-11 speaker basically having the same drivers and crossover can play louder but requires expensive coupling capacitors for the middriver to perform the best. As always: Any speaker is a compromise between a set of design parametres.
