New Album & The Beginning of Basketball Season

I think Love will re-sign with the Cavs - unless its a total disaster there which is unlikely. Cavs are off to a slow start but should get it together at some point. In the old days the Lakers got whomever they wanted one way or another. No longer the case, at least over the past few seasons.

Clippers play the Spurs tonight. Never know who will or won't play for the Spurs. San Antonio is playing GSW tomorrow night on a back to back so more likely the Warriors will get lucky and face a lesser lineup.

Clippers played much better against Portland in the second half of their last game and won. Hope they will continue to play better.
I remember when the Big 3 played their first few games and were losing terribly. It wasn't until Wade relinquished control and said that the Heat was now LeBron's team. Then they started winning and the rest is history

Irving and James drop 32 each. Love nets 22 points and Cleveland tops NO. That puts on hold Love's op out scenario. :D

I was watching on and off the Spurs vs Clipps and the Clipps looked good and were winning only to see that they lost today to the Spurs

They aren't ready for prime time just yet IMO

Something is missing from the Clipps as on paper at least they should be leading the west and not trailing the Kings by a full game

They were my preseason pick based on paper. Will have to watch. Can't understand with the talent they have, particularly when led by Doc and CP3, why they shouldn't be pretty dominant.

too many chiefs and not enough indians perhaps

For my money I like the Warriors over the Clipps but the season is young

The Clippers haven't meshed at all this year, starting in the preseason. In the game againt the Spurs they were ahead the entire game until there was just over a minute left and then gave the game away.

With the change in ownership you'd think they'd have every reason to be happy and work well together.

One of the commentators on NBA TV, Dennis Scott I think, mentioned that he thought there were locker room problems among the team members.

Given the Clippers poor play throughout the preseason and so far in the regular season, its apparent something is amiss.

Like I said too many chiefs and not enough indians. They all want a touch and more shots

The Warriors removed their biggest weakness, Mark Jackson. Steve Kerr is a much better coach.

At present I agree that the Warriors are playing much better than the Clippers and will win the Pacific if things stay the same.

Curry and Thompson are a super strong back court and they have a number of other very good players. They need Bogut to stay healthy - he rarely plays an entire season.

As long as the Spurs are playing nothing is cast in the West... They looked their old selves. Just waiting for the other team to tire trying too much to lead them and then ... They will play the same as last year .. managing their old warriors, watching the other team and explode at the end fo the season ... My money though is on the GS Warriors making a serious go at the West and the Spurs playing the spoilers ... As for the east no one is emerging as serious dominating contender, it could be any team even the Knicks :(

I can't disagree. I expected the Clipps at home should have spanked the Spurs. It'll be a fun game to watch tonight vs Warriors

My simple answer to the Clippers struggles is that they should have gotten Paul Pierce who was a FA. :D

Clippers need a veteran leader on the court and Pierce could have fit the bill, not to mention his bond with Doc.

I look at the lineup and suddenly it doesn't look that deep. Jamaal is starting at the 3 and there's only Matt Barnes and Hawes off the bench. So the starters are burning almost 40 minutes a game. Can they sustain that for 70+ more games? Spurs have a lot of mix in their lineup. First unit can be mixed with second unit. That's their sustaining power in the end. Well, Doc had the habit to soaking the starters in the Celtics days. That's whom he trust. The season as mentioned above is still young so let's see. How bout a reboot of lob city? :D

Pop is going to rest Duncan and Ginobili...predicted break for the Warriors comes true.

Too bad - it would have been fun to watch the Warriors and Spurs go at it with both teams at full strength.

Last time I believe HoopsHype...Duncan and Ginobili did play against the Warriors and the Spurs beat Golden State.

Guess the Spurs still have it.

Your observations are correct! I was hoping the Clippers would sign Pierce but it was not to be.

Clippers don't have a starting quality 3. Jamal is a great scorer but not so good on the defensive side. Matt Barnes is better suited to a back-up role, energy off the bench and tough as nails - but a hot head, too.

I have a lot of respect of Kareem. As a teen growing up playing the game, I would emulate his sky hook, without much success. :D Seeing him play as a Buck against the Celtics in the mid 70s, he was a menacing scoring machine, shot blocker and rebounder. In the 80s he would return to menace the Celts again, so much so that Bird would comment that he wished the Kareem would retire for the C's to win titles. He has 6 championship rings as well, but unfortunately no commercial success and no coaching job. I think he had a brief stint as a consultant of assistant though. But to me, he certainly is a top 5 all time great.

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar: ‘No One Was Able To Guard Me’
November 12, 2014 11:42 AM

With the NBA’s all-time leading scorer appearing on the show this morning, Brandon Tierney couldn’t wait to ask Kareem Abdul-Jabbar a very important question:

Can he still dunk?

“Yes, I can,” the 67-year-old said on The Morning Show. “I can still dunk – at least up until last year I could still dunk. I haven’t tried it in about a year.”

The Los Angeles Lakers probably wish Abdul-Jabbar could do some dunking for them. At 1-6, the Lakers are the worst team in the Western Conference and the second-worst team in basketball, behind only winless Philadelphia.

What’s the short-term prognosis for the Lakers?

“Well, the short-term is going to be tough,” Abdul-Jabbar said. “They’ve got to figure out an identity, and the players they have (need) to come and step up and play at their best ad play together. That takes a while to establish that. But I think Byron (Scott) is doing a great job. He’s absolutely on their case about what they need to learn and how they need to play. He’s going to do the best job he can. I’m sure Byron will lead them and make them figure out what they need to do to be a better team.”

That probably doesn’t involve trading Kobe Bryant, who leads the league with 26.7 points per game.

“I doubt they would trade him,” Abdul-Jabbar said. “He makes a lot of money, and he’s been a Laker his whole life. I don’t think people could even conceive of him being on any other team. The Lakers, they need him. He still has a lot of firepower. If they can put other good players out there on the court that can play with him, it will still be a good team.”

Abdul-Jabbar played on plenty of those. In fact, he won six NBA titles in a career that is often overlooked. When people talk about the greatest players of all time, you’ll hear Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, Oscar Robertson, Bill Russell – the list goes on. It usually takes people a while to get to Abdul-Jabbar – if they get to him at all.

Why the lack of respect?

“I think just the way I played the game, people couldn’t appreciate what I was doing because no one was able to guard me” Abdul-Jabbar said. “They say it was easy for me or something to that effect. It wasn’t easy, but I had a tactic and a method of playing the game that enabled me to do a lot of really great things.”

When he retired, Abdul-Jabbar was not only the NBA’s all-time leading scorer, but also the all-time leader in blocks and defensive rebounds.

“That’s pretty good,” Abdul-Jabbar said. “People just can’t get their head around it. It might take a while, but people who know (the game) understand I did something very special and (that) I deserve some credit for that.”

As for today’s big men, Abdul-Jabbar enjoys watching Tim Duncan and Joakim Noah.

“I like Joakim Noah,” Abdul-Jabbar said. “He’s a defensive player. He plays for his team. He has a mentality like Bill Russell, making it difficult for their opponents to get shots close to the basket. He guards the basket well. He rebounds well and he’s a good cog in their offense. He plays the game great at both ends of the court.”

With Pop guiding the Spurs, they are always dangerous on any given night. Plus they are defending champs, intact and united. Western champs the last 3 years. Today it would take an OKC kind of relentless offense the won 4 straight playoff games in 2012 to knock out the Spurs. And that would be hard to do. They are one of very few teams with a 'system', offensively and defensively. And their mixture of veterans and young ones is a perfect blend. Hats off to Pop and GM Buford.

Kareem was always one of my favorite players. Perhaps it was his politics or religion that stood in the way of a real coaching opportunity for him. He had an unusual personality as well from what I've read.

I still remember reading an article about him in Sports Illustrated when I was a kid. He was then a freshman at UCLA and couldn't play varsity basketball back in those days. His freshman team almost always beat the varsity team - even those great UCLA teams.

I also tried to emulate his sky hook - and had the same degree of success as you. :)

You probably remember that Oscar Robertson played with Kareem on the Bucks - that was late in Oscar's career.

Good to know about your sky hook. As they say, misery loves company. :D

And yes, recall watching the Big O with the Bucks and thought he was 'slow', specially when shooting with that 1-hander jumpshot, and on slow-mo, it was even slower. :D But I know the guy was fast in his younger days with the Royals. I just missed those years.

Oscar Robertson played college ball at Cincinatti and took two NCAA basketball championhips away from Ohio State in 1961 and 1962. They beat OSU in the finals both years. John Havilcek and Jerry Lucas were the stars of the Ohio State team.

I grew up in Columbus, Ohio so we weren't big Oscar Robertson fans back then.

And speaking of John Havlicek, I didn't know he held the record for most missed shots in the NBA, that is prior to KOBE breaking his 'record' a few days ago. :D Thanks, Kobe, you did a favor to a Celtic. LOL
