I was happy when the Clippers signed Hawes but he was a disappointment in the regular season. Thought he was going to be the back up big we needed plus he could hit the three point shot - a stretch 4.
He started out pretty well but seemed to loose confidence and Doc benched him.
It would be great if he could get his mojo back. He also has another three years at about $6mm per year left on his contract so he's a boat anchor at this point unless he starts contributing.
I see. Hawes was in the playoff team of Philly that included Igoudala, Evan Turner, Jrue Holiday, Thaddeus Young and Lou Williams - all gone to other teams, and the were giving a good fight to the C's in the 2012 playoffs, I recall. That he's got a multi-year contract speaks well of his talent, and hope he gets his confidence back for the good of the Clippers.
I also noticed Sam Cassell in the bench of the Clippers. Apparently Doc was able to yank him out of the Wizards bench and the commentator was saying that Sam is playing a big role in the 'improvement' of Austin Rivers. Sam was Doc's 6th or 7th man in the 2008 Celtics title run so they have good history. There are lots of 'talents' now on the Clippers' bench, with Lawrence Frank in charge of defense and not filing paper reports in an office. Doc is grinding out win after win from a supposedly shallow bench even at the beginning of the Spurs series. My son was saying that Austin now has a 'Kobe-like' move with a man fronting him, Austin swings the ball low to his left and right, then hits the long shot. I didn't know Sam Cassell teaches that.
