Gary - curious about the preamp...what is different about it relative to Steve's own Reference Preamp ?

Sorry folks, it's been a mad rush to get everything shipped for CES. We've ended up having to delay shipping to Monday, which doesn't help as that kills my weekend :)

Hey Gary, when you come into town for that Dragon install bring a server over :)

I sure will! I'm excited by it as it sounds better than the last two Windoze based builds already.

I'll post more when I have more time, but some of what we learned designing the SMc-1 went into the VRE-1B to 1C development as well. The VRE-1C is more "balls to the wall" and Steve's "sound" is a little different from my "sound". It will boil down to musical taste, etc.

Thanks! Will be interesting to hear someday, without doubt .

Looking forward to checking out all your new stuff at CES Gary. Sounds like particularly exciting show for you.

Look forward to seeing you in Vegas, Bob.

Here's the shipment that finally left the warehouse out today - all 9 pallets. *phew* exhausted!

By the way.... the entire shipment isn't all for my room. If it were, there would be no place to sit! It included Burmester, Elac, Thorens, Roksan and Plinius that staged in my warehouse.

Christmas and the New Year is always a busy time getting all the brochures for new products printed, press releases written, and demo music picked. Thankfully, my family is understanding.

Here's a sneak peak at the new loudspeaker. JackD201 already spied the planar ribbon midrange which Carolyn confirmed.

The "veneer" is not a veneer at all. It is bamboo ply. Bamboo is a grass, and not a wood. Bamboo fibers are very strong and very long - similar to the carbon fiber that I used on the Genesis Dragon. The bamboo ply gave me the stiffness I needed to manage the resonances on the panels. Turned out that it had much of the properties of the carbon fiber used on the Dragons without too much of the cost!

Sometimes the design of a loudspeaker (or any component for that matter) is shaped by the music played. I think that the Genesis 4 is a very 'fun' sounding loudspeaker because of this album - a double CD. I played it a lot during the last stage of tuning the crossover.

Sounds like fun. Wish I could be there. What size rooms are these systems going to be in?

The rooms we have are 14'8" x 30'. About half "downstairs" and half "upstairs". There are 2 steps down - makes for a difficult set-up as you're too near the speakers "downstairs" and sitting about a foot too high "upstairs".

That's a good size, but the stairs sound challenging. I bet it was less of an issue with the taller line source 2.2 jr's last year.

An instrument that I used a lot of during the voicing of the system was the cello - because my daughter just took it up, and she's been practicing a bit at home. I'm very proud of her as she'd got the tone down, and she knows it.

A recording I used was this one by Todd Garfinkle for MA Recordings. No, it is not released yet. But when it is, it is going to be a must-buy. Fabulous sound, and a great performance by Martin Zeller. Todd gave me the 24bit/176.4kHz files and will be playing them at CES.

Extremely challenging for most point-source loudspeakers. With the line-source last year, we had a sweet spot in every seat.

Great stuff! I have the first album which has the other 3 Bach Cello suits...look forward to this one. When will it be released in CD?

The first album was good, this second one is great. The first album was recorded with a dCS A2D while the second was with Todd's modified Korg MR2000 @5.6mHz DSD. Then, it was edited and mastered in PCM and I got the 176.4 masters (which he will eventually sell as well). My 11 year old daughter thought that the second volume sounded far better even on the system at home. It's richer and fuller, and if I'm not wrong a different cello was used.

Fantastic news! Do you know when will it become available for sale on CD?
