No need to refrain the baggage has been here reading through this thread. Just more of the same but you all do have an ignore feature. This will be used a lot.
what exactly is 'your perspective' ? when looking at the ad copy from SR on these ridiculous dots there is not one bit of believable science associated with them, yet they are happy to suck $200 out of your wallet !! Scott Naylor, go ahead and pin me with another 'sad' badge and then look in the mirror so as to see what sad really looks like !
Since when do we criticize something we haven't heard, and then ridicule somebody who has heard them and believes he likes their sonic effect?
I totally respect your benchmark of demanding believable science in support of a sonic effect, but is the sarcasm necessary?
These two new members, I believe, are refugees from audiogon. They are excited about the subjective sonic effect of an esoteric tweak. Let's be respectful of their enthusiasm, especially if we have not heard ourselves the tweak they are excited about.
I can't speak to refugee ridicule, but one reading of Twitch's comment says it is about the lack of information in the ad copy. I have not heard these things and do not comment about them, but experience tells me I don't need to be scammed in order to be sceptical.
Oh, on skepticism I completely agree! I am fully a tweak skeptic, as a first step.
But I am open minded to everything. Our beloved hobby is a pretty wacky hobby, after all.
Unless I have heard myself something in a controlled and leisurely environment, and I don't hear a difference, I don't suggest an opinion a priori.
I attended a formal demonstration of Synergistic Research tweaks several years ago. All three component tweaks seemed wacky to me.
I heard no difference with two of the three tweaks, but with the third device I heard consistently a sonic difference, which I found to be a sonic improvement.
So I consider myself initially skeptical, but open-minded empirically.
My tuning discs are arriving today, and I welcome your suggestions. From my experience with SRs ECTs and MiG 2.0s, their placement instructions seem to be right on, but, unlike some tweaks, these discs should be simple and fun to experiment with.
Ron, I'm sorry, but if you read that ad copy and remain open minded, then yes I agree with your acceptance of the wackiness of this hobby ! While I can't prove it in the context of this thread, but I am willing to bet that anyone spending $200 on the 'dots' could have easily spent their money elsewhere and got a better return !
I fully understand everyone is free to spend their money and 'believe'. But some things truly defy logic/science.
Precisely my friend. Way too much snake oil and folks that are willing to try it out in this hobby of ours. It is OK if you can audition and return but absent that, it is caveat emptor!
I received two boxes of Synergistic Research Carbon Tuning Disks last night from Alfred at Highend Audio. This comes with a 30 day return policy no questions asked.
Each box contains four disks two purple two gold. They are small and thin come with a small amount of gray tack clay.
After placing two Purple disks on the output RCA's of my Modwright Oppo immediately heard an improvement over all. Clearly the sound stage widened and deepened with a quieter background and just a "bigger" sound for lack of a better word.
The Gold disks change was a subtle improvement providing clarity, orderliness with quieter background.
This is my quick impression after playing around for about two hours. I'll share more this weekend.
I can understand healthy skepticism in regards to a product of this type. How it works I've no clue but the improvement is worthwhile and pleasing to me.
I started with the gold ones on the interconnects at the output on the source. I placed them on the cable close to the connector but not on the connector.
Then I placed a couple of the purple ones on the speaker cables, but these were placed at the speaker end, again on the cable as close to Y as possible to get both + and -.
No break in required.

I'm not doubting your experience, but I'm curious if you tried these unsighted? I can think of a few instances where I thought I heard something with a tweak, but later when heard unsighted, I realized there was nothing there. With an assistant, this would be a very easy product to test.
I have also experimented with additional places for them. So, to those who have a 2+ boxes let me know if you want some other places for them that seem to work well.

When you are listening for a difference it is not surprising you will hear one. Then there is the question of whether there is improvement or simply a change. That can depend on what counts as improvement. Wait a while (weeks) then switch back.

Will, you make an excellent important point.
By buying an item there is an expectation to be rewarded. also any change at first could be thought of as an improvement, pleasing or more interesting. I've bought SR acoustic resonators in the past and found them to improve my rooms soundstage. I am/was predisposed to expect an improvement with the disks.
What I immediately heard from the Purple and Gold was a definite improvement. By swapping Gold and Purple or none the effect was predictable undeniable and immediate. Tonight I'll continue with the Oppo but move the disk location around as suggested by Ozzy. Appreciate your ideas and suggestions!
I know of Ozzy from the Audiogon forum he's earned my respect over the years.

You are addressing Ozzy as if this is his first rodeo. He has been around a bit. A sharp shooter. For good or bad. Yes, what you are saying makes total sense. But I have a strong feeling he is fully aware of all that

A good point Tima.
Occasionally I'll swap out cables or slightly move my speakers. Easy to do and no harm done.
In my case the change is clear and consistent but after becoming accustomed to the "improved" sound removing them later will reveal that. I have 30 days to do so and can return them if I feel the need.
