Oops! Then I am confused!

What is the exact difference between “Latest Activity” and “What's New”?

good question?

Most people will use Latest Activity

Latest Activity is a submenu of Whats New

Click on whats new and then click on latest activity and you'll see the diference

TBH just use what you are used to using and there won't ever be confusion.

For me I always use new posts. I see all of the new posts but read the ones in which I am interested. Once done I "mark forums read"so that the next time I go to new posts I see just that and none of the others that were there the last time I looked

Maybe Julian can tell us the exact difference between What’s New and Latest Activity.

I personally think that having both What’s new and Latest Activity is very confusing.

I like the way it is now done, only two buttons in Home (Latest Activity and New posts). Also Latest Activity is easy to get to in the mobile.

Best is the easy drag and drop of pics while posting

Totally agree

If all you use is one or both of those buttons you will be just fine

So to recap, when you are logged in, you can see that YOU are online. Others don't see that. In my screen grab you can see I am logged in in Safari but not in Firefox and are invisible to everyone. But I like being visible, I don't want to fade away.... but that is me.

The italicized text above is the important information. Iirc, this is where the new forum software is different than the prior forum software. In the previous version, if you chose to be invisible, you did not see yourself listed as online.

So, if I understand correctly, the Privacy Options do not apply to oneself but do work for others. Words to that effect are key to understanding how the options work. Pictures cannot offer an explanation that things are working as they do. (The exception is when a person has two separate accounts (user-ids).) Unless privacy option operation is stated, the end-user cannot tell the option is working.

I suggest including brief explanatory text near the Privacy Option checkboxes. Something along these lines:

If you choose to keep your online status invisible you will still see yourself listed as online.

For example:

Thank you Julian for going through the testing and giving the explanation of how the Privacy Options work. Thanks to all for their patience.

Astrostar59, is there any way to allow direct uploads of videos (.mov files) without first going through Vimeo or Youtube?

Thank you.

Hello Ron
Good point. We could, but the issues, and the reason most don't do that, is it eats web bandwidth and data space. Thus if we allow it, we would then require a bigger server facility, more cost (10x more). Youtube and others are free, so my view is let them provide the space and the bandwidth, and we place the videos to view in-site. It looks as though they are site hosted, but we don't need to fund the cost of serving it.

Hope this helps

Thank you, Julian. I understand and I agree.

I can't figure out how to use the "Search" function?
I keep pressing the magnifier on the top right corner but the screen doesn't want to stick, it keeps disappearing. But if I press it while I'm posting, then it works.

I'd like to use it while I'm not posting. What's the trick?

* Edit: Different devices different results...in regards to the Search function.
Smaller devices no go (tablets, phones, ...), larger devices (PCs, laptops) yes go.

I feel if this question has already been answered, but I can not find it.
Previously when entering a forum, the different threads were seen and you could know which had new answers because it was in bold. How can I know now what threads have had new answers

The forum will have a box with red letters at the top right which will say new and the flag to the left of the post will go from black to red

If you "mark forums read" everything becomes black at the left and the "new" from each thread disappears

Bob

Is that problem still occurring because no one has had a problem with the "search" button

Bob

I just tried about 50 times right now using my tablet, no go.*
Only couple times a larger screen appeared; very unusual because it wasn't the smaller normal box @ the top right corner...it was roughly third the side of my entire screen, similar (same) to when you perform an Advanced Search.

With a laptop there's no problem.

* But when typing this post the Search function works
_____

In some forums (other websites) it works no problem...any devices.
But on some forums the smaller devices cannot access the Search feature.
So WBF is not alone, for me with my smaller device.

Try with your iPad or iPhone.

I'm talking about the little magnifier logo here...top right corner.
The little Search rectangle just keeps flashing each time I press it, but it won't remain.
That's what I normally called the Quick Search. A feature I normally use.

I'm using Google Chrome right now with my Samsung tablet.
But when I use my laptop there's no problem.

I still can use the Search feature when going to the top left corner from all the various options.
It takes couple more presses, that's all, few more seconds. I just like light speed fast ?

* From roughly 300 presses (magnifier logo), the small Search rectangle came up four or five times, like accidentally. Something tells me that it is not fully performing...some type of glitch.
When I tried to take a snapshot it wouldn't work, strange.

But when couple times accidentally a bigger box appeared, then I could take a snapshot:

Test:

While I'm posting this right now to see if I can take a snapshot ... screenshot ...

No, the small rectangle comes up fine, I could search quick while in the middle of a post.
I cannot take a screenshot, I tried but it doesn't work. Unless I take a picture with a camera.

Let me see ...

I took a picture of my tablet's screen with my cell phone's camera, and then I took a picture with my tablet's camera of my cell phone's picture screen, ouf.
I don't know how to transfer pics from my cell phone to my tablet, no clue, I never tried.
But I know how to transfer in my laptop. Lol

Anyway, sorry for the delay and the poor screenshot, and be aware that the screen you are seeing with the small Search function rectangle @ top right was only available while I am posting (typing mode, in the middle of posting).
It wouldn't stick in normal operation, outside of posting.

Hi Tima, I deleted a previous post, sorry for that (it's complicated).

Anyway the Privacy options does work, yes.
When the two first top squares are unchecked/unmarked, like in the screenshot from your quote above, you are indeed in Privacy mode. Nobody can see that you are online except you, Steve, Ron and Julian. This is normal; the small green circle on top left of your avatar you can see, but all other members they cannot, except for the administration team of course.
And it doesn't matter which device you use and which browser, when you are log in.
When you are log out I have no clue; I think you cannot see that you are online, no small green circle, and I think that the administration cannot see either if you are online...nobody.
