I can't figure out how to use the "Search" function?
I keep pressing the magnifier on the top right corner but the screen doesn't want to stick, it keeps disappearing. But if I press it while I'm posting, then it works.

I'd like to use it while I'm not posting. What's the trick?

* Edit: Different devices different results...in regards to the Search function.
Smaller devices no go (tablets, phones, ...), larger devices (PCs, laptops) yes go.

It works on my HUMWEI ok, I click the magnify symbol and the panel expands full width screen with a text insertion blinking for text entry.
What phone and system are you on? I can then ask Xenforo about that.

Like I said, I'm on a Samsung Galaxy tablet. And it doesn't work.
I just tried another dozen times by clicking on that magnifier logo.
The Screen Search box appears real fast, a flash, a fraction of a second, but it won't remain there. Ok maybe just under a second.

I don't search with my phone, ever. First it's too small, I don't even want to type with it, it's mainly for calling like a phone, the occasional photo, and some world news on the go.

My three main web tools: Tablet, laptop and PC.
My main browser: Goggle Chrome, and the occasional Edge.
In use my cell phone mainly for calls...99%

Yes Steve.

But on other websites which also have that feature it works, and on others it works différent.
So it is not consistent of all the various forums from different websites.

It's no big deal @ all.

Here's another observation regarding that magnifier logo:

• Samsung tablet:

• Sony laptop:

Or course the design is slightly different because of the screen's size.
With the laptop the Search function @ top right works.
With the tablet it doesn't. It should because it works on other sites.
But it's ok because there is another alternative, from the tablet's top left corner, three small white horizontal bars logo; when I click on that logo I get this:

"Search forums" on the left column.

Edit: It could also be that @Steve Williams has taken up trumpet, who knows what he does since he's retired? Other than watch WBF 24/7. :)

Hello Don
Yes, I like that feature. It's another way to be in formed on where yopu posted. Also when members quote you, post after your post, post in your thread started by you. It's all great ways to communicate and speed up the information flow. As the forum gets bigger and bigger, these things can help members stay in areas they want and speed things up.

NorthStar, I will ask Xenforo about the search box and your phone. I'll come back to you. There is also the search tab in the sub navigation, and as you say, it appears in the mobile stacked menu as well.

Astrostar, I don't use my phone. And yes I am aware of the other alternative through the forums section for searching. Also I can use Google Chrome to search or Windows Edge, both excell @ searching.
Say I want to find out more about Vienna sspeakers, I can speak to my tablet on Google chrome and ask her: Vienna Speakers @ WBF
She will give me all the main entries @ What'sBestForum on all Vienna speakers.

I only reported my findings to help my community in order to make the experience the most pleasant one for everyone. The new design is superb and the people are the best. It's the people who make this forum the best there is, first and foremost.

Thank you for your time and consideration, it is truly appreciated.

Cheers,

I've run across what's best described as an 'inconsistent operation' of threads listed under NEW POSTS. I've seen this elsewhere but will stick with that section as the example.

Sometimes when clicking on a Thread Title in New Posts I'm sent to the FIRST post in the thead - I believe this is correct operation. However sometimes I'm sent to the LAST post in thread. Have not yet discerned a pattern. This may be hard to track down but it is happening.

I’d say that comes from people who don’t know how to navigate the site or other sites making typical comments.

I’ve just never had a problem

I’ve offered a solution previously

For me it is only new posts that I follow. I only read the ones that interest me and once I’m finished I “ mark forums read”

Steve - this is not a question of not knowing how to navigate. The point is the exact same link takes you to two different places at different times.

I wish you could give us a screen grab when you see this.

I understand exactly what you mean. My point to you is that when I navigate in the manner in which I have always used, I have never encountered what you are describing.

I did forward your post toJulian

I can't replicate your issue. Can you tell me which page you were on to then click the Latest Posts navigation? It is the navigation top left on the forum list page and the home page I think you mean.

I have tried in the forum list view, home and various threads view, all seem to be taking me to latest post at the top of the list.

On the device I am using right now it always brings me @ the first post of the thread.
If I want to go to the last post I clicked on the latest post date @ the extreme right.
What happens with my device doesn't mean it happens with yours, of course not.
For example my tablet is glitchy with the small magnifier logo on top right, the search function.
But it's no problem because there are other alternatives that are as good and only take few seconds more. I also found out a trick; if I press that magnifier couple times not too fast, it does stick 50% of the time. If not I just repeat till it does.I'm getting better and better @ it.

Just a couple suggestions and to see if there are other members who agree, or if the majority doesn't care.

1. Edit time period for posts: That's an interesting subject, and one we have been through in the past. I know it's a different preference for each person, for various reasons. I won't go into elaborate details as I like simplicity best.
* One week to ten days would be my suggestion. But I'll take whatever, from 24 hours to infinity.
{The more time the better, because corrections are always good anytime.}

2. Edit time period for PMs: That's a very very small detail...right now it is five minutes.
* Ten minutes would be my suggestion. ...For typos and grammar and verbs and spelling; that type of small stuff +
_____

? It's a gorgeous day here today; perfectly sunny and warm and pleasant and happy.

I agree that 5 minutes is not enough however Bob we have had the discussion as to why we will have a cap on the time a post can be edited. You know the reason, as iirc it was you who asked the question about edit time previously.

So hang in there a bit Bob and we will get the edit time fixed however I am not going to open the same can of worms. There will be a cap on the edit time

I agree, Bob, with increasing the edit time. I write a lot of posts from my cell phone, and I often do not see typos for hours later until I get to a computer and a big screen.

Does anybody agree with me that the "Jump to New"" and"Unwatch" tabs should be seperated physically?

Since they are visually physically connected I sometimes hit the "Unwatch" tab when I mean to "Jump to New," and since "Jump to New" and "Unwatch"are opposite concepts (if you are jumping to new that means you are interested in the thread and in seeing recent posts, the opposite of wanting to not monitor that thread by unwatching it) it just makes sense to me that they should not be adjacent to each other.

IMHO we should be able to edit the OP of the Buy and sell forum for a reasonably long time. Although we can add a bew post referring it was sold, people miss it and go on sending PMs asking to buy ...

To come back to the time to edit

This will be set to 3 days which gives ample time to edit a post. That is the way we had it on the vBulletin platform and it will not be extended beyond that. Having said that in the past if a member has a significant edit to make such as i his system the admins have helped him do this.

Now to edit a conversation. I thought of that again because in vBulletin there was no time edit in a PM. Once you sent it, it was sent. It's between you and someone else so it's not a big deal as it is a conversation that can be amended with your next post. No change will be made
