did the latest firmware update bring any video quality improvement to the 203?
I am in the market for a 4k player, a few people into this had told me to get the Panasonic UB900, cheaper and has better picture than the Oppo, although the Oppo seems to be built better.
* Here's what I think: If you have an OLED 4K TV the Sony 800 is only $300 Cdn. The OPPO 203 is $750 Cdn.
And yes the 203 is well built, so is the Sony. And the Sony plays SACDs and DVD-AUDIO discs as well.
If you have a 4K front projector, the Panasonic 900 is an excellent choice.
You look like someone who has a 4K projector...JVC? If you do there are people happy with the Panny 900 mated with HD Fury.
The Oppo 203/205 still has a GOOD bug, I talked to them about this a week ago. Even with this 913 firmware release the Oppo 203/205 does NOT detect Cinavia through the USB 3.0 or 2.0 ports. So you can make a copy of your disc 100% with like MakeMKV and play the movies thru your USB ports without Cinavia detection. I use a 6TB HDD in a USB 3.0 caddy and it's great. Don't even need to use the disc drive. Upscaled to 4K also.

Comparing to the previous Official release version UDP20X-50-0913, the major changes included in this version are:
1. Minor update for improved Dolby Vision compatibility.
2. General fixes and disc compatibility improvements based on recent and upcoming UHD Blu-ray releases as well as user-submitted samples.
I was confirming what you first saw, the Oppo logo.
* The TV in that latest video is of course a LG OLED 4K Dolby Vision TV.
It's a good video, instructional, very...for people who own LG OLED TVs with Dolby Vision mated with the Oppo 203 4K BR player and Dolby Vision equipped. Good tips on some of its unique and beneficial features.
Just a thought: Today with new technologies and improvements in picture, the newest 4K products including the features and the connections (HDMI 4K cables); they need to cooperate harmoniously between each other. If not you need a PhD in the art of 4K Hand Shaking mastering.
Most regular folks simply want to put the disc in the player and press play.
But you need to set the player first, and know what to do with different discs encoded with HDR or Dolby Vision. There is certainly a learning curve, and only the most addicted take the time to track it.
I find that some experts expect the users to become experts themselves.
In the world of music and movie entertainment the field is a vast horizon ...
