Photo Highlights Of RMAF 2011

I'm on the east coast and was very interested to have some briefing on the RMAF. I wish to thank you for taking me through the show and seeing all the wonderful pictures. Thanks for sharing, much appreciated.

Excellent pictures Steve! I see you even got a picture of the Vandersteen Trio that I have been curious about.

Great job Steve. Thanks!

106 dB...tame?

Interesting read from John Atkinson on the PF soon to be release, although 106 dB is tame. For about 3 hours last Saturday I demo'ed the same Wisdom speakers that Amir has in his showroom and we were hitting peaks of 138 dB without breaking a sweat. One day I hope to visit your showroom, Amir. I have the WYWH Immersion box on pre-order.

Ron, just this weekend -- we went to hear a friend play. Two acts/bands preceded them. Using my iPhone Studio Six SPL Meter, every band measured sustained 100+ dB level, C-weighted

I was discomfitted by the utter volume after 5 minutes. The gal at the front door directed me to the bartender who had earplugs available behind the bar...I promptly purchased three pairs :D

Boy were those speakers a disappointment to me. The Usher mini-Dancer II's for the same price sounded much better (what I really mean of course is that the sound in those two rooms compared in that way)

I guess it 's to whom you talk. I loved both rooms and am a strong ARC supporter but both mep and I gave the edge to the other room. Interesting how one man's passion is another man's poison :)

I also liked both rooms, and by Sunday the Aesthetix room sounded much closer to the ARC room (to me), but still not quite there.

rbbert,

For what the ATC/Pink Floyd demo room equipment and set-up cost, I was notably underwhelmed by the sound.

Would you please elaborate?
Thanks.

Thanks, Steve

Hope to meet you, in person, soon

Well that stinks. I had some high hopes for them as they look a bit nicer than their boring model 3s.

My vote for the best rooms I heard (@65% of them) are the Avalon/Electrocompaniet, the Thiel/Rowland, the Wilson/Doshi, the Marteen/EAR and the Lindemann. I also enjoyed my time at the YG/Tenor, Esoteric and Genesis rooms, all of these had a nice presentation, musical and friendly people.

Great pics Steve. Thank You.
I see the new SF Guarneri Evolutions were present. Did anyone have a chance to listen to that room? I see they were demo'ing with Prima Luna ( NOT what I think would have been a good match, but:confused:)
I like the stands that Jonathan Tinn is using for his Dart gear in your photo, what are they called....."invisistands":D

DaveyF: We intentionally do not use and stands since we were showing off the Wave Kinetics A10-U8 Component Control Systems. We have found that they eliminate the need for expensive racks.

Why would anyone subject their hearing to peaks anywhere near 138 db?

Wow, JTinn you are going to be very popular with the rack manufacturer's, LOL:D

Please elaborate a little as to what the A10-U8 Component Control Systems are and how they work..

Ah! Ah! here is the great table, is that a Goldfinger Statement? If yes, then THAT made the sound so great, I've heard one yesterday and WOW!!!! does it sound great compared to the Goldfinger V2. Mind you at 16K$ it should, bu well woth it.

DaveyF - I knew they will show- up with the Evolutions and cowardly decided to stay away from them! :)

That's a good one Fernando:)

I would love to hear the SF G E's myself, but i don't think I would want to hear them with the Primaluna's....may be wrong but IMHO that would be a little like using bias ply tires on a Ferrari...
( the PrimaLuna's being the tires not the SF's:D:) )

Hi Jonathan.

I wouldn't with most speakers because they just can't handle it. The Wisdoms did so and did it effortlessly, causing no ear/brain fatigue whatsoever. Of course, if you're only listening at reference level, you'll never come close to 138 dB at the listening position.
