The FR20's are still breaking in, but with quite a lot of experience with the larger FR30 model, these speakers do have a lot in common. What they do not have in common are the back firing tweeters on the FR30's, which also gives you twice the membrane surface area in the bass as well as a much larger cabinet and inner volume.
What makes both these speakers and models special is the large planar midrange which integrates more or less seamlessly with the tweeter and bass drivers. You have to push the speakers hard playing something like a grand piano to get a sense of the minor differences in speed and transient attack in the lower registers compared to the mids and highs.
The FR20's is much more realistic in terms of size for a majority of our clients in Sweden who can't or don't want to fit the FR30 into a normal sized dedicated listening room or living area (typically 15-40 square meters). You will get a very similar performance within its frequency range from the FR20's in these rooms, where you will only loose some air in the treble as well as some of the lowest bass impact and scale.
These speakers demands some power and preferably solid state or Class D amplification based on our experience so far. Both models will benefit from a neutral, dynamic and fast sounding amplifier to make the presentation come alive, where you will get an almost electrostatic experience within most of the frequency range with the addition of the more solid bass impact from dynamic speakers.
Hope that helps.
