Just what I was looking for! A new Universal Transport from PS Audio which can access the DSD layer of SACD Hybrid discs, and deliver the data to an external DAC using its I2S output (such as the MSB Cascade DAC with the I2S input module). Hopefully, I can own one of them (in black) before PS Audio runs out of Marantz optical drives, as this will be a limited edition production of just 200-300 units.

I think you have to consider how relatively few SACD‘s are based on DSD content and that an SACD mostly just is a standard media container for Hires PCM. Most SACD’s have 24/96 or other PCM resolutions as source format, which is better played as original studio master download by a good streamer than as a converted SACD. It’s what we read from DAC designers as well, that it’s best to play original recording formats.

Cant you do that with the existing transport from PSAudio?

Hydrology, the older PS Audio SACD transport has been discontinued long ago. And JazzJunkie, TIDAL's hi-rez content has become abysmal, with hardly anything available in anything above Red Book CD.

My objective is to have a universal transport which reads data off of variety of optical discs, and outputs the data via I2S (not S/PDIF or USB) to feed it into a MSB DAC’s I2S input module for MSB's D-to-A conversion, where magic happens.

Yes that’s possible. I’m not familiar with TIDAL, but native recording formats are available elsewhere (Qobuz, highresausio.com, NativeDSD.com and others) if one‘s interested to get the best possible format. I looked up at NativeDSD.com since long, what’s the basic format of individual SACD‘s. Quite rarely DSD is it.

Even of those, where DSD was the recording format, 98% were mixed with a DXD stage (even of those who strongly propagate the DSD format like PS Audio). Only a hand full of boutique labels mix with HQ player or don’t mix at all and thus have a pure DSD process.

In case of a DXD mixing stage, the DXD mix file would also be the better source format, not the reconverted DSD file.

Don’t misunderstand, I’m a fan of DSD and even in case of DXD mixing used, a DSD recording has advantages. But DSD or SACD as playback format at home, is only the best choice in a small or sub-single digit percentage of cases or has to be chosen because the last used PCM or DXD format in the process is not provided.

There are 2 other SACD transports that are on the verge of release if the PS Audio transport is as limited as you write - Shanking's Onix Zenith & YBA's YT 302 look very nice and are top-loading transports with configurable I2S outputs.

I used to own the PS Audio Perfect Wave SACD Transport, The I2S output on that model was only compatible with PS Audio's own DAC, is the I2S on the new transport compatible with third party DAC's.

I need some clarification of anyone knows
First is do you need a ps audio or msb dac to get the dsd layer output in i2s in native or dop format. As is I own a few dacs with this input.?

Next is if I burn a dvd in dsd format can this player pay these disks. ?

For me a server is many times not the same as a transport to a dac , and for this reason I'm interested.

Any one have any onsite on this ?
