Quad dsd....on the Golden Gate

Would it be better to get the board installed into the golden gate or buy the transport and wired i2s to Golden Gate?

It's too big to install into the golden gate. You need to build a separate box. This guy I posted the link to did a nice job. But I don't like that he used extra cables in the enclosure. I would design it so the board outputs connect direct to Neutrik passthru connectors instead of the extra cable.

Dont know yet about what Transports he uses.

Its not hard, but takes some time and he seems to have a lot on his plate at the moment, but I expect sooner rather than later...

This guy wants $539 USD for this turnkey transport. I'd bet money that it would slaughter the Lampi Komputer in a blind test playing quad DSD files.

It's good if you have compatible gear.

I was thinking seriously about the Tascam ad-3000 for archiving my vinyl to double dsd. I noted that the Tascam will send the native dsd out over sdif-3 so I emailed Lukasz today to see how easy it would be to have sdif-3 added.

The GG Chassis is huge.

There may indeed be space for it. Its more the screen that is the issue. Lukasz could also do one in a seprate chassis.

To be completely honest nothing beats DSD direct like this SD card transport does. Only way to improve on this is with shorter wires.

There's also the power supply. All this stuff needs laid out very carefully for noise purposes. It's best to keep it in a separate enclosure even if it could fit.

So we basically need a neutrik socket on the back of the golden gate that could be fed directly from this sd card board (in a box) or an hdmi port for i2s?

Tascam would essentially be an sd card transport in this situation albeit using sdif-3 as the output - you can playback from cf or sd or USB drive via Tascam

You can just buy this raw PCB kit with display. But then you need to find a power supply and build your own enclosure. But if you order this built system from Japan it's ready to go.

On the Lampi you have to tell Lukasz to wire up the HDMI port to the PS Audio pin out standard with DSD support.

Yes but who knows how pure the path is. Jitter is introduced on the sending and receiving end with SDIF-3. It's 2 extra steps of conversion. This unit is designed to be as simple and pure as possible.

It's an extremely well made SD card transport with I2S/DSD direct output via HDMI LVDS, and support up to DSD 256.

I even found a source who builds it into a nice enclosure! I might have to buy one of these just for fun! It absolutely slaughters anything connected via USB. I don't care if you spend $1000000.

It is the same one that was documented in several threads of diyaudio? http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/group-buys/260565-gb-sdtrans384-micro-sd-card-digital-transport.html

As I said, this is a lot going on for us, purist label that we are, but we'll do our best. Fingers crossed!

Congratulatiuons, Bob! :)
Please continue to make your analog recordings available on 1/4" and/or 1/2", 15 and/or 30 in/s, CCIR EQ, with no NR.
Thanks.

In our case we prefer to "mix" on stage in the concert halls with the musicians, moving them around in the sound stage instead of moving them around electronically after the fact. In my view, the less tampering with the sound after it is recorded the better.

Bravo!
What are some of the mics you've deployed?

Oh, you think its engine would beat BE????

You have not even heard either and you are sure???

I can tell you that Lukasz is jumping up and down about the SQ breakthrus with the BE engine. Even for CD playback in the Komputer.

Blizz, don't be so absolutist…improvements are happening in many directions at this moment..and you know I am an SD card solution lover.

Oh, and as fr or PS and its layout, do you don't that Lukasz can't handle that? Isn't that his stock in trade?

I'm basing this on information from someone who has been using Amanero's for years and compared it with the SDtrans384. It even blows away modded Amanero's that far exceed the quality of the stock Amanero used in the Lampi's.

I'm sure Lukasz would be the first to tell you building the SDtrans384 into the GG case would be a bad idea.

The problem isn't the BE engine, it's what happens between the USB output in the Komputer, and the DSD out on the Amanero.

What is the "BE Engine"?
