I think I will be. Isoacoustics says within 10% go up a size. I can get them on Amazon and if no noticeable difference, return them.

I'll bite. I recently upgraded from a McIntosh MAC7200 receiver (still using it for the tuner section) to the following Pass Labs gear: XP-32 preamplifier, XP-27 phono preamplifier, and X250.8 amplifier (500 Watts into the Qualio IQ's 4 ohms). My source gear includes: the Mola Mola Tambaqui DAC fed by the NuPrime CDT-10 transport, and the Pure Fidelity Harmony turntable with the Hana Umami Red cartridge on the Origin Live Illustrious SE tonearm. I note that my Qualio IQ speakers sit atop Isoacoustic Gaia II Isolation feet.

A brief synopsis of what we've experienced, albeit it's early on and the new pieces are still breaking in and will be for a while (especially the XP-27 phono preamp). Our findings unequivocally show that the Qualio IQs are exceedingly capable of taking advantage of, and illuminate brilliantly, positive changes made along the musical reproduction line. In a word, "transparent". "Absolutely stunning realism!", and "We didn't know what we were missing!" readily come to mind. The Qualios so love to work with the power / current / finesse now available to them, they organically present into the room / our ears whatever music and musicians are presented to them. Classical, opera, rock, country, bluegrass, jazz, swing, Irish, alternative, blues and more have been in the mix. We note that the Pass amp runs Class A/B, and I don't think we'll ever run into AB as the amp has, for the IQs' need, overly sufficient muscle / finesse / exactitude / (insert positive phrase here) while running in Class A operation. We believe that once the new Pass pieces get run in more, there will be much more goodness and "rightness" forthcoming. We're looking forward to the journey! One note: the Pass amp is a room warmer for sure! LOL

Hey djbnh, thanks for the input. Nice Pass gear you have and surely is a nice upgrade from the 7200. If you don't mind me asking what speakers did you upgrade from? Also, you mention "we" often, is that you and your significant other or do you own a audio store?

I would concur with dj. Every change to the system is very noticable and I can't really see there being an upper limit to where the Qualio are the weak link.

I'm selling mine because I've gotten deep into diy and I'm very happy with the speakers I've built, after years of research.

I personally judge speakers on this because my listening room is above my wife's head when she is asleep. Typically eaiser to drive speakers meet the criteria. I like having the ability to rock out but won't use it alot. So how is the low level detail with this speaker?

It's a nicely detailed speaker so it's good for low level listening. Hopefully someone else will chime in as the main amplifier I used is known to come alive at somewhat higher volume. I would say it's definitely not a weakness of the speakers like some I've had...

The Qualios love the Pass X250.8 amp's class A high bias current supply / performance at all listening levels (we've never run into class A/B; it's class A operation up to 25W), so we're quite happy with the detail, soundstage, et al at low level listening. If we'd ever run the IQs into class AB, we'd probably go deaf rather quickly.

Reviews point to the IQs being a "current cunt", and thus the X250.8 is an apt match for the speakers' high current requirements. YMMV depending on your amp, etc.

Wicked nice follow-up by 6Moons / Srajan Ebaen two years after he reviewed the Qualio IQ speakers. To quote, "As I said, IQ remains a real problem for the competition two years after it showed up on the scene."

Regards the IQ Ultra version, can someon discripe the improvement of soundquality for the Ultra version?
Is the price of the "gold and silver" inside the Ultra notable? How big is the impovement in %?
