Rick Rubin

While that's true, we're talking about Rick Rubin and the precedent he intends to set.

And there's a difference between being the exception and the rule. The GNR is the exception. It's like good sounding recordings today. It's more often a mistake than planning.

While I can be very pessimistic about state of our Pro Tools world today, there are enough old school, excellent recording to make me happy.
Jake Bugg, Ray Lamontagne, Anoushka Shankar, Robert Plant, Daniel Lanois and a host of others have made super sounding albums.

Jake Bugg's new Rick Rubin produced album comes out in two weeks. I will compare and contrast to his first album.

If anything we should throw Dan Auerbach of Black Keys name into the ring. He has been producing some VERY
loud records recently.

Throw 'em all in there if they deserve to be there with those who are being paid to make crappy sounding records.

And???? I know the owner of Cumbacha records, a superb world music label (Bombino etc.)

He listens to nothing besides his own productions. He would not know Audioslave from Jay-z.

Me thinks that Ken knows a thing or two about the music industry. And BTW I know Ken and he does. And I think Ken's system is better than Rick Rubin's even if he doesn't use Shunyata.

I thought the Danger Mouse deserved that credit, much as I like the Gnarls Barley record or whatever it is. BTW how did Ludwig achieve 'hot' on the infamous 'RL' cut of LZ II? Compression?

So, here's the part where RR chimes in, like that Marshall McLuhan scene in Annie Hall and says "I said nothing of the sort." :)

I have no doubt Ken knows the music business. He has some very good titles on his label.

Running a label and making a gratuitous, blanket statement about the last decade of music being sucky is a bit odd, and totally untrue in
every conceivable way.

I am assuming you have sat in front of both systems? ;)

I own three DM productions, his Rome album with Jack White and Norah Jones, the album he did with Mercer from The Shins, Broken Bells, and
and Norah Jones, Little Broken Hearts. I think all three sound terrific, if not a bit processed, which is actually the intention.

Have you? You're the one that made the statement about Rick's system.

Yeah, but remember Rick's system is wired with Shunyata so he knows what he is doing.

No, but I made no claim as to one system being "better" than the other. I happen to know Rubin's system consists
of Wavac amps, 100K worth of room treatments and about 5 SOTA speakers he swaps in and out of the system.

A friend of mine of in LA heard his system and said it was amazing.

Did he get to hear some amazingly hot recordings with 0dB of dynamic range being played on that amazing system when he told you it was amazing?
