An incredible conductor. His complete Shostakovich symphonies on EMI, with several different orchestras, are a highlight in my music collection. His interpretative choices serve the music extraordinarily well.

(A number of the recordings in the series are also of exquisite audiophile quality.)

i was fortunate to see him 3 weeks ago conducting the Bavarian Symphony Orchestra at Carnegie. He did not look well but he was surely a most revered conductor.

Very sad to hear. I first became familiar with Janson's recordings many years ago when his Tchaikovsky Symphonies were highly praised. A big loss. Larry
