I have ordered the Aries Cerat Incito S! (I would have liked to get in house an Impera for a direct comparison, but it was not feasible.)

At half the price of the Incito S my favorite tube preamp is the Trafomatic Audio Lara.
Congratulations Ron ! I have heard Impera II Ref and Kassandra II Ref at my friend Aries Cerat gear , great pre and DAC , but still prefer my own AC Incito S & AC Heléne DAC , in this combo you are always at the elite level for musicality and emotional involvement.

If ever the good Lord should let me live long enough to finish my stereo system, I reckon you boys are gonna be mighty surprised that when I'm done, I'm done. No tweak'in, no twerk'in, no ground boxes, no noise filters, no thingies with antennas, no bee honey fuses, no nuth'in. Done means done.

I’m pretty much done, and I feel great! Pure happiness just listen to music… I Love it :p !!

/ Jk
You do sound like you are done most of the time Johan, and just enjoying your musik. That is nice ! :)

How will you know when you are done? Since you hatched your system a few years ago after the long construction break, your system has been in a constant state of flux with all end game components being changed.

I'll know it when I hear it.

I find the answer to the question, “How will you know when you are done?“, is a little more complicated. You have described many sub hobbies, one being box swapping, and curiosity. You are a reviewer and a dealer and forum co-owner with a large system thread. There are a lot of competing interests there.

For me, it was knowing it when I heard it, but also suddenly losing the desire to try different things and frankly being satisfied enough that I lost curiosity in alternatives and have reached a point in my life that I just want to listen to music.

“Knowing it when you hear it” certainly sounds nice and simple. I prefer, “I’ll know it when I know it.”

Interesting. You seem to have an allergy to ancillary components. I don't know how you will get there with only the big boxes. Maybe you will get lucky and find the perfect combination. Kinda like winning the lottery (which is what is needed to buy all the boxes and swap them around until you find the goldilocks combination).

I view it more like painting. Start off with big, broad brush strokes. Estabilish the color palette. Rough in shapes. But at some point the fine brushes are pulled out to refine, add detail and texture. This brings the painting to life. The broad brush stokes are the big boxes. All of the other things are the fine detail that allow a system to be methodically moved into your vision of sonic perfection.

I prefer to think about it like an Italian dinner, get the best possible ingredients and keep it relatively simple. Nothing like a really good Caprese…just tomatoes, mozzarella, basilikum olive oil, balsamico, and maybe some sal and pepper. Everything has to be top quality and then it’s heavenly. Average ingredients makes for a “meh” outcome with such simple recipes. Same with audio…IMO.

Can I suggest you also think about Mark Rothko paintings - Rothko applied many successive thin layers creating subtle tonal variations. Layering and glazing were essential in his fabulous paintings.

Fine brushes risk troubling the sleep of a few people who immediately think about pinpoint ... ;)

This comment sound like its not there yet?

I know of a little amp you might want to hear. Its got single-ended inputs and is a tube amp that does not make much power. Being a modest amp you may not take it seriously at first but I've seen it take down amps that cost in 5 figures so it might be worth consideration.

The amp is a Dynaco ST35. It makes 17.5 Watt/channel. Its always been recognized as the best sounding Dynaco amp. Dynaco didn't make that many of them in the old days. But I understand its being reproduced. Not sure if kit form is the only way to get one.

The new ones have taps for 4 and 8 Ohms; the older ones have taps for 8 and 16. Either way you want to make sure the amp is functioning properly and in the case of an older one, properly refurbished.

A good sign when done or getting closer is less forums posts.
Just my opinion lol

One might think that, but someone who is done might offer a very interesting perspective on the hobby and its future.

One observation I made a while ago is that there seem to be fewer and fewer new system threads started.

For every hobbyist who finishes his system and does not post much anymore, there seems to be a new manufacturer joining the forum to discuss his new products. Karen Sumner had some very interesting contributions, but she seems to have left.

I lurk and try not to post , I've had audio systems since teen years .
In my room and car , I had a cradel in my car and in my room to use the then 8 track tape deck.
Had open reel decks before vinyl.
Sadly CD players took me away for many years . I feel to step away helps me not keep moving
Its not that better is not there to take. It's more about trying get happy .
Maybe its just me. Be it cars , audio fish tanks and so on.
It's a type of coping mechanism for me.
Regarding new systems no matter old or new it's work and difficult to know what's better.
By shows I don't think the hobby is dying I think it's become more status of what we achieve .
Like cars as an example or watches.

That made me hungry for it.

I'm pretty much done, system has remained the same and haven't bought anything hi-fi for about 15 years.

I know there are newer models and updates out there that may? sound better, but i honestly don't care or even think about it anymore.
Got a sound i like and works for me, can listen to all the music styles i like, just buy music now.
