Ron's Speaker, Turntable, Power and Room Treatment Upgrades

I’m curious why you changed your routine to judge systems. Why do you not carry around those records when you go to shows and hear some of these super systems around the country?
No particular reason. It was not a conscious decision. It was not a policy change.

If I'm traveling from LA with all of the video equipment, I don't have much room in the suitcase for a stack of records or the time to visit people leisurely. The last few years I have focused on interviews, and not really enjoying leisurely for hours or even for days the rooms + systems I have been visiting.

Sucks that you have lost on the hobby to do this. Travelling with records should come first, and then time should be used for the interviews. Guess you are more of a professional now then hobbyist

I noticed that also, more a business than a hobby but I think that is very much Ron’s intention. he wants to be more and more part of the industry as a reviewer and a dealer and a forum owner and I think he really enjoys it. I don’t think it necessarily means he’s losing interest in and the joy of listening to music, it’s just that his business interests seem to come first. I think he is pretty open about it.

How can you assess a system without carrying LPs. That is like visiting Chris and doing a photo shoot of one system to get it on the channel without actually being inquisitive of the various systems at his shop, which is what a natural hobbyist would do

I have a big stereo at home. So I don't need to travel with records to enjoy listening to recorded music as my hobby.

So why do you travel to other people’s systems? If you are doing that just for interviews, that is boring. You should be learning something from those systems, which would require you to listen to some reference music. Some of his, sure, but some of yours.

I agree with you Bonzo. We have the same approach. I carry 10 or so records with me when I go to listen to other systems.

It is clear that Ron has a different approach and travels basically for business and to promote the industry and manufacturers and create content for his website. Ron is now a promoter when he travels and enjoys meeting the people involved and learning about new gear. He enjoys his favorite recordings at home on his own system.

I get that Ron. We can all enjoy listening to recorded music. I think Bonzo and I are saying that you do more than that. You judge and rank systems and start threads about your rankings.

I seem to remember you describing the criteria that you use for ranking to be the suspension of disbelief based on the listening experience. Is that correct?

Ron, I seem to remember you posting a video of "Send in the Clowns" on your new system. If I am not mistaken, could you please share a link
Don't bother, they're here

(Sorry folks, couldn't resist... um... I'll see myself out...)
