While at the Micro Center computer store. At $34.95 it is a tad pricey, imo ( I saw at least one different version. Shop around because prices vary. )I came across this. I was tired of just placing my beloved Sony headphones on the desk. It works fine and looks beautiful. https://www.bing.com/videos/search?...=satechi+aluminum+headphone+stand&FORM=HDRSC3
I see no reason why you could not stuff this in your backpack. Also I find it to be the perfect height for me.

It does look well build, but I've been wondering if these stands don't leave a permanent indentation on the top the the headband cushioning after being left there for a long time.
My last pair of HD518's got a very noticeable dent in the headband cushioning after being untouched for about half a year.
Now That I've gotten even better headphones(including a new HD518), a hd599, HD650, and my old trusty AKG K501 among some others I am reluctant hanging my headphones from a stand.
Has anyone else experienced their headband cushions deforming?

I would imagine leaving anything in place for six months would create some form of memory. You could beef up the padding either on your headphone or the stand. I foresee no similar problem with my SONY headphones which are well padded and in heavy rotation.

I have not fully explored this option. I plugged my headphones into it and they played perfectly. it has multiple input for other devices. Hence the term "hub."
