this is not the 25th anniversary.

i don’t know which Altec you heard, there are many Altecs in France in the Hiraga group and each one sounds different
Still confused by the Padouk base and number of voltage regulator tubes: what model Decware is this if not the 25th Anniversary Zen Triode SE84UFO25 or the 25th Anniversary CSP325?

Greetings from Switzerland, David.

SE84UFO25

I didn’t know that was the 25th anniversary

Hence the “25” at the end. He mentioned he’d ordered one. Lovely little amp, but needs to be matched well, hard to predict synergy.

Greetings from Switzerland, David.

that’s most true with pnoe. I think the amp will match if he improves his source

I’ve been taking it to places (small, light, and came in a flight case with wheels), and have often wondered if the speakers were exclusively responsible for the variable synergy we got, in fact, I’m convinced the source component has something to do with it, quite possibly because this isn’t really an integrated, but a power amp with input attenuator, so the quality of the output stage of the source component seems key. Did he go direct? Seeing a Hovland pre on the rack?

He went direct to Decware, but with Hovland to the other two.

Might be worth trying with the Hovland, been ages since I last heard a HP-100, but remembering it as a fine pre.

Greetings from Switzerland, David.

i thought of that but given analog wasn’t on I didn’t bother, will do it after he sets up analog and I revisit. He is also planning a different Altec from Hiraga so will listen to both at that time. A few months away

Man this was crazy. Like best along with Yamamura. All hand made, playing solo to Mahler to rock each better than anything and only with a dual 701 and Shure V15. Best weight and impact I have heard, integration, and brilliant highs and midrange

The Shure VR-15 is a very underrated cartridge. Also, because it tracks very well with just 1.25 grams of pressure, it’s very gentle on your pressings.

Pnoe AER BD3b compare with Decware zen triode 2.5w, coincident Frankenstein mk2 8w, and border patrol with two power supplies 6w. Latter two are 300b. The border patrol with Sophia princess was less than the coincident with Genalex, but once the Genalex was moved over the border patrol was much better.

unfortunately demo was on digital. Will go back in a few months when he sets up analog

What did you think of the Coincident?

it was blown away by the border patrol though later is higher cost with the two battery supplies

Can you provide more details on this system? Or if you already described it elsewhere in this thread, can you give us a link?

I’ve heard Border Patrol several times at shows, always one of my top rooms. I’m not surprised you were happy with the sound.

i don’t know about happy it was better than the others. The system would need to change a lot

It’s using dual Altec 416-16b and 288L. It is all hand made as the guy is a wood worker, Hiraga helped him with the cross over. Compared to 817 is using a bigger bass horn (1.2m wide).

the electronics are quite simple, no valve, Kaneda replica amplifier which many on Melaudia forum have
