Sme 3012 R

I know this old arm is good but I don’t know why David,Rockitman,Tang,Ron,Mike
Use or will use having top tonearm like Sat,EliteAxiom,Black Beauty,Durand

Why 3012 is so special?
I never had and I don’t understand
Only to know for my curiosity
Regards
Gian

I meant sonically
Due to its age I never found a Series 1 that was all original or sounded right because of the quality of the repairs. You gotta know what you’re buying with vintage, no easy answers here.

What is the difference between the 3012r and the 3012 series 1 again? As the latter is on sale in the UK

I am now aware of the thickness of the wall of the stainless tube of the series 1, but I think it is not the same of the "R" - the "R" tube is 0,25 mm thick. Some people sell 12" stainless tubes of 0,2 and 0,5 mm, but I never found one of the proper thickness.

We can always buy a cheap 9" SME 3009 tonearm and build the poor man's 3012 -R, but according to DIY tradition it will become the best SME in the world! :)

Christian, can you repost your picture of the alignment gauge? I don’t remember where you originally posted it.

Have you bought from this guy Christian ? I’m always sceptical when i buy hard to find genuine gear in Hongkong.
SME S2-R headshells are still in production and many vendors have them no need for counterfeits.

And about the same price as the one on ebay. Thank you Jeffrey !

I've purchased a few from 2Juki. I'm going to buy on from SME to check 2Juki's.

Although with the level of counterfeiting going on these days, I'm probably not capable of telling the difference.

Counterfeiters have better to forge than a few SME headshells - IMHO the demand of these shells is not enough to justify it. They would have to make also the Styrofoam box and the card box - usually easy to distinguish in cheap copies.

If your shells and boxes look exactly as the detailed photos of the auction they should be originals - I compared them with one headshell supplied by SME and they look exactly the same - even the wires and connectors.

I agree with you 100%. The Styrofoam is molded, not cut. Why would you go through the effort?
