Taiko Audio SGM Extreme : the Crème de la Crème

Hi guys,
I recently bought the nic card.
I bought without sfp module option and without taiko dac cable , to explore first with my magic planet sfp modules .
I bought the dac cable from aftedark , amphenol , 1m.5
.https://www.adark.co/products/amphenol-dac-sfp-cable-for-audio-grade-network-switch-group-buy-for-audiophilestyle-com?_pos=1&_sid=11fb3ffe7&_ss=r

I would like to do: edgerouter x- copper - etherregen switch -fiber thru dac cable to fiber on nic taiko card.

Is it the correct way for best sq?

Also anybody knows wich finisar fiber modules we need for the nic taiko card?

Thks a lot

Hi guys,
I hope it s the right thread to inquire about nic card operation.
I spent the last 2 hrs trying to connect nic card to etherregen via an afterdark dac cable without succes.( eduard was very helpful setting everything up).
I m connected to port A now of ER via copper cable .
Anybody using ER?
Port A is 1000 mbps so i don t see why is not sending internet to nic via dac cable and sfp .
Thks

Hi Folks,
anybody interested in expanding their storage for a Taiko Extreme, may look at my add on the classifieds section.
Thanks Maarten

Hi dears,

Extreme vs DAC daughter card . I recall it has been discussed already. Do we know if this is planned to be out for the closed future (2025)?

Thank you

This is under investigation, but no concrete plans exist at this time. It is too early to foresee whether or not you might see developments for this in 2025, or later.

Hi Christian, Pardon my english (and my insistence). Do you mean:
1. It will certainly be developped and all Extreme owners will have the possibility to add a DAC daughter card, if not this year then later
2. It might never happen that Extreme owners have this possibility to add an internal DAC
3. or?

It *may* happen (no promises), maybe this year, maybe later.

It is just too early to provide any definitive answers. All I can say is that various options are on the table and we are always looking into expanding possibilities and/or improving the performance. Importantly, the Extreme Server is planned to stay relevant.

adding a dac card is certainly a nice way to eliminate the usb output that is the noisiest part of the extreme.
i look forward to hearing more about the extreme (and electronics) than about anodizing, why black sounds better than silver and the constant "are we there yet" requests for shipping updates

DAC card for the Extreme does this mean XDMI on the Extreme?

Well, not reading about the “constant requests for shipping updates” is quite easy, just don’t read the Olympus thread. Otherwise, I fear that people who have been waiting 8-12 months for their already paid shipping will continue to ask for updates.

The question is if the Olympus thread is the right place to ask. Wouldn't it be better via support@taikoaudio.com?

I think the Olympus thread is a suitable place to ask that question. In fact if Taiko, as I have asked on several occasions (and in such an irregular delivery situation), had been offering regular information, two things would have been avoided:
a.- Fifty or sixty users “bombarding” Taiko support with that question
b.- The unpleasant feeling that some of us feel of “begging” for information to which I believe we have a right.
But well, that is only my point of view.

I understand your POV. Taiko surely have the email addresses of all Olympus customers. So they could send weekly updates to all. IMO, the Olympus thread is not the right place for this topic.

If they posted updates in the thread then no one would have to contact support and it would require only 1 weekly post.

We are posting updates when available which is actually quite regularly. Looking at 2025 we have posted status updates on the following dates: 11-02, 29-01, 24-01, 21-01, 17-01, 15-01, 13-01, 10-01, 08-01, 02-01.

We’re making steady progress addressing bottlenecks and ramping up production rates to meet demand. We have hired 5 new employees and are actively working with our suppliers to address the main rate limiter being chassis surface finishing / anodising, the progress of which is shared in regular intervals in the relevant Olympus thread.

Emile, I wasn’t complaining. I was trying to explain to the poster that having everyone email support wasn’t a good solution. I realize you guys are doing whatever you can to get these built.

Yes it does. XDMI will become available to the Extreme, and who knows, maybe even other servers. This does however require an additional sizeable engineering effort. Currently most of our resources are spend on expanding our manufacturing capabilities hence we cannot provide any reliable ETA.

I in turn just quoted you as the last individual poster of a series of posts :)

Indeed a high support load does not help, especially as the more experienced members of our team have to divide their time between manufacturing, assembly and support. But it’s quite understandable that people, eagerly awaiting their turn, reach out regularly for any news or with questions popping up. I would too!

Funny this discussion moved to this thread, where we actually were in a similar situation with the launch of the Extreme 6 years ago with very long lead times as well because of a seemingly unmanageable high demand. We made it through back then, I’m confident we’ll pull it off again.

Most interesting!

Will there be more DAC makers implementing XDMI?
