Now that would be cool

My mistake. Those .ISO files are cover art, while DSD files „have a .dsf file extension“, sorry for that.

Does Qobuz Connect have any consequences for Taiko Extreme users?

Tidal Connect and Qobuz Connect are separate services from Roon. They happily co-exist.

Also no problem with Qobuz Connect and XDMS?
Thx, Ulrich
Qobuz Connect works from within the standalone Qobuz App (not the Roon or XDMS control apps) with devices compatible with the protocol, such as network endpoints (streamers) or wireless speakers. It has no bearing on Roon or XDMS, which are both separate technologies. Qobuz will keep working in Roon and XDMS just as it did before.

Christiaan,
when will Taiko servers be ready for Qobuz Connect?
Thanks

This is on the To Do list to look into, but we have not yet had the time to do so.

Forgive my ignorance but what would Qobuz Connect offer over and above Qobuz within ROON/XDMS?

Qobuz Connect is quasi Qobuz pure without Roon signature. Some people are not very fond of Roon. It might be personal taste if one is superior. So it is nice to have options. Emile announced upcoming support for Qobuz Connect:

I don’t see anything in the above Qobuz link which addresses heebrog’s question whether Connect will possibly offer better sound quality than Qobuz/Roon?

I can imagine it might for no other reason than there might be less continual processing going on than through Roon?

Looking forward to seeing what Taiko finds when they are able to test/compare.

Not directly Extreme related but also helpful:

Over the weekend, I listened to Qobuz Connect on my other streamer (Nagra), and I have to say, it sounded fantastic—possibly even better than with Roon. Of course, YMMV since sound quality depends on the streamer itself and the network conditions. It might also perform better with the Extreme in certain configurations. However, when the network is optimized with a Taiko router and switch, that may not be the case.

In any case, it’s great to have this option as well as all the other protocols. Any idea when it will be available?

Indeed, the article mentions nothing regarding Sound Quality, but it explains what Qobuz Connect is, a question raised earlier.

Regarding sound quality, whether Qobuz Connect sounds better than Qobuz from within Roon on Taiko products remains to be seen. Although Roon is often found to have a recognizable character that is also audible when using streaming services, and using Qobuz Connect would bypass Roon, the Olympus Server has been devised to be impervious to such variables. Likewise, we have made considerable strides in making the Extreme Server as insensitive to this as possible, especially when using the Extreme Router.

Apart from potential influences on the sound, Qobuz Connect extends the usability and can be a nice alternative to Roon.

An ETA is not yet available, as we first need to dive into this and investigate the possibilities. All we can say is that we want to implement it, and it is on the To Do list.
