Taiko Audio XDMS - Extreme Direct Music Server Software

Amazing, thank you @Taiko Audio !
The backend remains the same, 2.5.7, correct?

The new 4.0 Backend (which works with the Python Scanner) is in internal testing, and the Beta App is being hooked up to the revised API of the 4.0.0 backend.

I may need a dose of Lithium to understand this Christiaan...

This was in response to Zeotrope's question. It means a new backend is in development and being tested. The backend is the software that runs on the server, to which you connect with the app on your tablet or phone.

Is there a new estimate for when Beta will be launched? Even a rough idea…
Given the complexity of the software, which involves not just the functionality, but also solving the impact each change has on the sound quality, it is hard to predict when the Beta release will be ready. But I can say we are getting close.

When I had the Extreme, I used only XDMS because of the better sound. I have had the Olympus for several months, and Roon is much more responsive, much more stable, and has better music search. I hope that at some point XDMS will be close to Roon in these attributes.

Roon search functionality is indeed very nice, especially the integration with Qobuz and Tidal. But we are committed to keep making XDMS better and better. Achieving great stability is our prime focus, and scanner- and search functionality are large factors in this.

Fingers crossed that backend 4.0 (Beta?) has reliable Qobuz access along with improved SQ.

We are currently testing the XDMS Beta version by our core developers internally. After XDMS Beta for Extreme has been tested by our larger test group and the software has been perfected, it will be released publicly. As mentioned, there is no fixed timeline, but the public release sure is coming closer.

At that point, we will start looking at a version specifically for Olympus. We have ideas aplenty, but these still have to be implemented and tested.

I’m probably one of the few that has not installed alpha yet. When it goes to the Beta version, is that something that I’ll be able to download / setup on my own, or would that still require help from Taiko Support?

For the time being, the procedure will remain the same: to request partaking in the Beta trial (partaking of new users is closed for Alpha), after which we will connect remotely to carry out the installation of the backend on your server. We are continuously working on perfecting the backend installer, so this may become as easy as a single double-click at some point. However, please note that the control app (for iPad/Android tablet) is part of TestFlight, for which you need to apply, as long as we have not yet publicly released the app.
