Taiko Audio XDMS - Extreme Direct Music Server Software

In my system, the SQ improvements with the latest version of XDMS are absolutely stunning. The immediacy, the separation of voices and instruments, the blackness of the background, and the exquisitely defined low end, all are by far the best I have ever heard.

Kudos to Ed and the XDMS development team.
Ed fixed the back end issues I was having after trying to upgrade to the latest, and now I've been rolling with it for the last day. Holy crap, it's a very significant SQ uptick, indeed! The music's gestalt is up several notches - - just so much more "real" feeling. More spatial 3D palpability with full, natural specificity of placement and interaction. Bass seems better defined, and harmonics are fuller sounding, but not at all exaggerated, and all of this fuller sound doesn't come with any sacrifice in speed or PRAT. Percussion is very immediate, piano strikes deliver a fast, well-defined quality that delivers all of the felt + percussion on the string. Lovely. This is several notches higher in "believability", IME.

For digital sources, in a market which is for a large part focused on box count/appearance/weight, this is a particular difficult aspect to bring to people’s attention.
You know more than me. But I believe people are becoming more aware the importance of software. Roon and Roon upgrades has opened many people eyes to the value of software.

Have you seen what AI developers are earning. $1M salary. And tbey bounce from company to company every year to catch the sign on package.

I too am a bit late to the party but Ed got me sorted out in short order. Many thanks, Ed!

I can't compare directly to previous builds of XDMS because I went to Roon from a combination of finding out Olympus would be Roon-only for some time and frustration with my inability to play tracks in my previous build of XDMS.

Turns out the problem was with an old version of player.conf that somehow never got updated. Ed got that all squared away and I've been using XDMS for the last two evenings.

I would have to say that to my ears, the 2.5 version of XDMS is a clear improvement over Roon. Roon sounds very good on Extreme, but 2.5 makes Roon sound a bit fuzzy and almost "paper-y" around the edges in comparison.

It's still very much alpha software and there are bugs and functionality that needs fixing, but as far as sound quality here at Rancho De Luxe West, I think its the best build yet.

2.5 made my jaws drop. The mid bass especially was so much better than previously. With my O/IO in transit I have been extending my Extreme XDMS listening sessions. The clarity of everything is truly captivating. I have been using Roon lately and I musts admit that it too is excellent but there is something about this new back end update that has me gasping for more. I do hope the wait for an XDMS version on Olympus wont be too long as I love XDMS and it somehow just keeps getting better

Steve, Marc, Steve W, was your previous build 2.4.4+2 before changing to 2.5? Or was it an earlier Build than 2.4? I'm currently 2.4.4+2. Just curious as to what you guys are comparing 2.5 from...

To be clear, I'm not comparing XDMS (directly at least -- it's been well over a month since listening via a much earlier build of XDMS) to any earlier builds other than to say I really do not hear anything objectionable or that seems a diminishment from excellent sound quality.

Okay thanks Steve. I listen to both Roon/XDMS and have a pretty good grasp of 2.4. Again just curious as to the jump between the two...

I was comparing 2.5 to the previous build as I am always current

Another O and I/O installed. It took me about 1.5 hours from the driveway to playing music. Solo install:)

I am running the Analog out into a Kondo G1000 pre/Kondo Kagura amps/Alsyvox Caravaggio XX.

With the system and the O and I/O dead cold, the sound far surpasses what the Extreme sounded like, which sounded REALLY good. Especially the textures in the midrange and the harmonics off all of the instrument, especially strings.

The density of all images (voices/instruments) is uncanny.

Will report after a week of burning in, but I would be happy with what I am hearing now.

Solo install, Bob?! I call that ABM (audio beast mode)!

You should post this in the Olympus thread.
