Sometimes the story is a sad one..Little Boy Blue-The Impressions..Beginning Of My End-The Unifics..Whatever Hurts You-The Mad Lads..I've Lost Everything I've Ever Loved-David Ruffin..Prove It-Aretha..You Can't Hurt Me No More-Gene Chandler..The Sea An She-Rotary Connection..I Can't Find-Smokey..Come Back-The Five Stairsteps..The Coldest Days Of My Life-The Chi-Lites..There's No Love Left-The Isley Brothers..Please Return Your Love-Temptations..It's All Over-Walter Jackson..Honey-Bobby Goldsboro.

I think the saddest song I’ve ever heard is “Hold On” by Sarah McLachlan.

The Cure - The Same Deep Water as You

Tom Waits - Take it with me, from the Album Mule Variations
Tom Waits - Kentucky Avenue, from the Album Blue Valentine

Lonnie's Lament - John Coltrane. Slays me every time

Mad World, performed by Michael Andrews for the Donnie Darko soundtrack.
Originally by Tears for Fears but this Version hits it out of the park, where the original is rather insignificant

This song gave birth to Tears for Fears. The original is definitely significant. One of all time techno songs.

Maybe I should have added "...rather insignificant for me, especially in this thread".
Better?
I don't like the original too much (where as I really like Tears for Fears in general), but I really love the Michael Andrews cover for the Donnie Darko soundtrack. Completely transforms this song for me :p
