The End Of A 35 Year Journey ---Zellaton -The Reference Ultra Final Frontier

...I know, I know. I read the thread, but the chrome engine rings were medium-speed, right over the plate.

Low-hanging comedy fruit...you gotta pick it.

I can state with metaphysical certitude: I would have gone with the black, and not waited!

Another client install including Plural Evo’s and the incredible Soulution 757 phono, running variable volume direct to amp. Next installment flying in with my tech to install multiple tonearms on an AS Invictus along with cartridges including DS Audio to benefit from the Soulution’s unique optical input. Full Schnerzinger loom. Stay tuned ;)

Pool table enjoys the sweet spot? Not what I'd expect, but we each get to choose...

Not bad. Not bad at all.

Not audiophile but the owner and guests sure do get to enjoy some sweet sound. I only hope they break one way!

Haha.... I damned sure would...and if it was before I got married? I'd have the Playboy channel playing in the background....

Er, uh....not that this ever happened...

*You can't prove it! Nobody saw a thing!*

Well, I hope it's a second system.... We're all different, for sure, but it would need to be for me.

The sweet spot is throughout the entire room, which connects to another room as well, where music flows and is enjoyed no differently than the glued to center audiophile.

Gideon, please.

Ah! Then in that case my/our sweet spot is right under the range hood (allowing those wonderful spicy curry fumes to pass through and up the range hood!) hooray! I knew that crazy architect had done something right when designing our new home with an - open plan design. I wasn't a fan because there's only one corner that's fully enclosed with two sides of the wall (left ch CLX), whiles the other side only has a front wall & partial side due to our main hallway running down the length of the right ch CLX. So when I got my ML techie crew to measure a few things, we did find that yes that sweet spot went down that hallway and into the driveway! So, we must install that beautiful ML Sub and just one BF210 did it! Ah! and now that sweet spot is also in the laundry room whiles I'm folding me undies very neatly... Woof!

The off axis sound with these speakers is very impressive. Sometimes you have to get your ass out of that center position. Last week I hosted ray dude and nenon. I was sitting way off axis and the sound was fabulous.Thank you

Of course if I were listening to panels I’d be locked dead center. The beauty of these speakers is they sound like panels but unlike panels they have realistic bass as well as excellent off axis sound

I have now logged lots of hours with these speakers over the last several weeks. My special lady also enjoys music and when we listen together she occupies the prime listening position because I'm not as dumb as I look. The Plural Evos provide an excellent experience off axis. They lose very little of the energy and focus even if you are not in the sweet spot. The pinpoint imaging is there. The depth and gravity of the music doesn't leave. These speakers fill the room-enveloping all the listeners with a great sound. I'm not articulate enough to paint the right picture, I can only say the Zells project the music more broadly than most quality speakers I've heard. Its an effortless presentation and I'm quite happy to surrender the sweet spot. Certainly, the on axis sound is truly magical, but these guys can entertain a group with very little lost in the bargain. The precision, speed and focus is still there and I'm only thinking about the music, not the seating.

This was a characteristic of the PEs that was evident when I heard these speakers at SWAF in Dallas. Gideon's room was very popular-word got around- and as I developed a serious interest I spent several sessions listening-often far from center stage. The ability to perform off axis was striking. Good stuff.

Yes very true! Also did find this attribute to be an intrinsic factor of Zellaton's. As we walked around from side to back, the soundstage held together as if the performance/ musicians were located right there in a full 3D holographic image. Nothing lost. Absolutely quite an amazing capture compared to most other high performance speakers. Whereas panels are concerned, no chance being off-axis. I agree.

Cheers Stevo, you're in good hands.
Well done and a good decision.

This installation is very interesting, such that if you consider the rest of the room, there's no apparent listening area. It's basically an entertainment room. Also, one that not only engages in much enthusiasm with the pool table but also a room that engages with high quality sound. So it's not just a room for big boys to gather and play with big toys... it's rather one that elevates all your senses in terms of entertainment and profoundly musical engagement. I reckon it's a great room! Can certainly spend hours on end in such settings. All your worries go away, no stress, no fuss, just enjoy those tunes and let's play pool.

On the other spectrum of things, if I were to have quality sound in such entertainment settings then perhaps speakers suspended from the ceiling would be my preference. This way, the speakers are out of the way and if any mates had a few too many and were getting tipsy, they can't fall over or topple those beautiful Zellaton's! Not sure if Zellaton even offers such a product but there are other great choices that don't cost a truck load to ceiling mount.

Speaking of which, way back in the day (in a galaxy far far away...) we had the Bose 901-series VI suspended from the ceiling with chains, it was bloody fantastic! Driven by Carver amplifiers, we blasted the whole verandah, even the neighbours were twerking!! Even the old neighbourly gran was trying her best twerk whenever we played reggae.
Why I brought the Bose 901 into context is when Gideon mentioned that the Zellaton's have an endless sweet spot... in fact! That's what Dr. Amar Gopal Bose research was all about. He researched psycho-acoustics, how the human ear perceives sound, and found that we mostly hear reflected sound and very little direct sound, although we're sitting in front of our systems or at a live performance. Amar Bose is the one who developed the Direct-Reflecting speaker concept and his first series 1 of the 901's came out in 1964. The rest is history! And now we have similar concepts in terms of: transmission line loaded, open baffle, dipoles, etc. So for what you can have with D/R sound for around a grand vs 100grand... the choice is yours.

Obviously I would certainly like to have the 100grand speakers. A D/R speaker that most can afford also comes supplied with an active EQ! Anyway, just saying, for "entertainment" purposes I really wouldn't want to spend on Zellaton's. They deserve a dedicated room for their owners who truly understand what these speakers and its designers stand for. Zellaton's aren't ordinary cabinet type speakers.

If this is the owner's second system, I do wonder what the main system comprises of? Perhaps the live artists themselves! Ah! Now that would be really tops to have D Krall, Chris Botti or George Benson playing in your own living room! Oh yeah! Enjoy those finest tooons.
WOOF! RJ

Oh! Forgot to add, just one more for the road; I'm hoping there's a beer fridge in that room. Nice selection of fine imported beers and fitted with one of those Anaconda size power cords... will keep the beers mighty cool.
BTW, I'm using Odin Supreme reference gold II on my fridge, keeps me salads & cherries cool.
