Speaking of Bond, James Bond, what's with the super sized albino half brother that feels no pain and the Dad with no redeeming qualities whatsoever? It was like having Jaws (the metal toothed guy not the big hungry fish) and Donald Pleasance' version of Specter but with hair. At least the female best friend/friend with benefits didn't die and the animosity between father and child was consistent down to the last blow of the axe. This chapter/arc of the saga is about that relationship but we get predominantly her side unlike the first movie where both Girl and Reporter are evenly developed.

Still, better pace, answered some hanging questions, sets up the finale. Middle movies in trilogies are the hardest to do so some leniency is given by me for degree of difficulty.

I thought the opening of CR was by far the best of "any" James Bond Film and I have seen them all starting with Dr No

Seen them all countless times. Agreed about the crazy Parkour chase scene in Casino Royale! The only even-close opening for me was the bungee jump in Goldeneye. Most of the skiing/machine gun scenes, etc. just seem too artificial. There's no faking that scene in Casino Royale!

Well, if I were to look back of the last 2 trilogies I remember, namely, Matrix and Lord of the Rings, I would say I liked only the first parts on both. Even right now, I like The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo more than the Hornet's Nest. In my case, the mystery of the disappearance of Harriet and the accompanying intrigue of Nazi uncles gripped me more than the father/daughter or reporter/girl relationship. But in the 2nd part, the court proceedings were interesting to me. I like legal/action/drama as well.

I agree, the Dad part was essential to set up the "Hidden Hand" scenario as he is a direct participant in whatever secret agendas there are that will be revealed involving the arms deals and dealers that got Michael arrested in the first part of "Dragon". There was a lot of mythology surrounding the mystery of the first. Not so with the second, more a straight forward detective type thing. A modern mythology should be back in the third.

I'm not so sure if it was meant to be a trilogy or a longer series. The author passed away early. I'm just hoping it gets tied up nicely in "Hornets".

Reports are not great, but as we see here, a lot if people love the films. It's primarily a courtroom drama -- I felt #2 particularly was too talky, static and mostly lacking in tension. The cutoff nerves guy was indicative of what I've seen in the series -- it all boils down to psychos with very convenient backstorys. Generic save for the main character. Interesting central relationship ignored in #2, then some mostly gratuitous sex thrown in. Not that I have a problem with that , though I've developed some aversion to grisly violence over the years.

For a much more interesting, tense and cool take on the genre IMO, check out the original 'The Vanishing' if you haven't seen. Dutch, I think.

Saw Finchers take on Dragon Tattoo yesterday. Certainly better production than the Swedish version. Liked the soundtrack minus the opening which IMHO was the usual industrial drivel. Had some subtle humor that the Swedish version did not have or if it did I didn't get it. Enjoyed the movie quite a bit, wouldn't say its way better that the other. Their both similar but different,what they add/omit/vary is not the same.

Yesterday I watched the American version of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo... Definitely, it's one of the best and more catchy movies I've recently watched.

Netflix has just made available the entire Swedish trilogy on streaming. I guess I'll watch it as soon as I can!

I saw all three. Very good, once you get past the subtitles. I really hate reading movies, but I get used to it after awhile.

Saw the first two Swedish versions. Very disappointing -- good performances but the big mystery they huff and puff about ad nauseum devolves down to just another movie gore sadist. The parole officer/rapist wasn't even the really bad guy. I'd imagine the Fincher movie is more stylishly told.
