The longest and most detailed signature I have ever seen in a forum!

I thought the post was referring to the signature of the individual who started AA, which was the OP.

Yeah, but we get side-tracked on occasion.:p

That's how I felt and if you wanted a signature line and PM ability, you need to pay for a membership.

If you feel that, why do you post over there?

still-one seems to like AA, he's made over 19K posts.

PS, AA celebrates its four year Anniversary in April. Current membership is 115,827.

Doesn't really mean much. How many of them are "active"?

I am a member of AudioAficionado and regularly post there. They have many friendly members (some of them also participate in WBF) and I have got excellent advice from knowledge people there. Some sections are centered on most popular brands and this threads contain a lot of useful that can not be found elsewhere. Some manufacturers and distributors post there first hand information and precious technical details and advice.

IMHO it complements very well WBF - different style, but also very enjoyable. Something I miss but have not found anywhere is the great style of thread that existed in the good old days :) in the Systems sections of Audiogon - debates mainly centered on the systems, owners preferences and its evolution. Although a few people still keep their systems alive, after the Audiogon disastrous renewal this section lost most of its glint.

I don't think I have posted their since last fall. Please take no offense.

It means exactly 112,029 more members (at this very moment).
...And how many are active here? ...From the 3,827 members, total.

* And I agree with Francisco's post just above; it's a nice complement as you got some very useful info over there and here. And you got some real nice people at both places.

Sorry Bob, but no dice. There is no way in hell they currently have 112, 029 members online. Blu-ray.com has 220, 961 registered members with 4,489 members online as of this very moment.

No they do not have 112K members online. They have 112k registered members. There are only 1640 online. The highest number online at any one time was 2348 on 28-Jan-13.

i friend introduced me to that forum a few months ago, and i agree that people there are very friendly. almost no debates i could see, and i for one, get a hard time trying to read the text posts of people as opposed to their long signatures. i think in here, it's the reverse. :)

I'm not talking about Blu-ray Forum, I'm talking about AudioAficionado, and how many more members there are over there as compared to here. ...Registered members, not active in one day!

As for real activity, the more members the more chance of greater traffic. ...Scientific fact. ...In most general cases.

- AVS Forum is working on two million members. ...Traffic (real activity) is stupendous. ...They've been at it since the late nineties (98). AVS = 1,068,770 registered members right now.

* Jim, AA has over 115,865 registered members. And WBF has 3,830 registered members.
The difference is 112,035.

I was trying to politely say to rbbert that Ivan and AA was never a problem :) Ivan and I get along very well. Always have. You also don't need to make any contributions at all to be a member with PM (at least not anymore if that was ever the case). Your first 15 posts will be moderated and then after that, you're a member.

To get PMs, you have to be a Subscriber, which cost $25.

True, PMs will cost you $25 (for 1,000 of them). ...Even simple Visitor Messages are not permitted without a subscription.

But then, you have a bunch of other benefits when you become a Subscriber.
Just go over there, and check it out; it's all Black on White,
and for only $25 you get a red 'flying wing', plus much much more. ...Many advantages.

Or ask Jap above, or Joe, or Jim, or Dan, or Julian, or Francisco, or Andre, or Rob, or Jeff,
or Gary, or Kal, or Myles, or Bob, or any of the other 100 or more members here who are also members over there.

You are correct my 112k was a typo.

I think that this site and AA are complimentary to each other. This site has some very technically astute contributors especially relating to digital media.

Someone noted in a previous post that AA is more of a social site. I can't debate that point at least on the surface. If you want to waste time kicking a dead dog about whether cables make a difference go elsewhere. If you want to denigrate Product A at the expense of some owners, go elsewhere. If you are having an issue with your set-up, or some buying advice, you will get it. It is "virtually" self-moderated with no politics allowed.

With a much smaller membership here, many forums will not be update for extended periods. It is amazing and refreshing that those responsible for keeping this site going are able to do so without ads, pop-ups, etc. and for no fee.

With the technical knowledge of many contributors here one must pick and choose where they can add value to the conversation.
Jim

-- Jim, you got that right! WBF has a great/awesome Technical Talk forum section. Well, that's one of the philosophies here; a team of technical audio/video experts.

And true, AA & WBF complement each other very well, I also think, as each site brings some' that the other is perhaps missing.

And your last point I like too; WBF is free.

McIntosh U.S.A.

Focused on the long haul, the company has long shunned publicity aimed at short-term gain. For decades, they refused to advertise. They wouldn't even submit equipment for review.

We've reviewed a lot of Mac gear over the last six years, and have always had a great relationship with the factory. I've always felt that while not the absolute best stuff in terms of resolution, etc etc, it's really well made gear that sounds pretty darn good, and considering the price of a lot of other gear, very reasonably priced in comparison. The people on the shop floor at Mc are fantastic, many of them working there for 20 years plus. They really put their heart and soul into what they do and it's pretty cool to actually see up close.

Charlie Randall once said when I was visiting that "You can't get more made in America than Mac, we even have the cardboard boxes printed down the street."

I hope now that they are a member of Fine Sounds, that they will continue on for a long, long time.

What I find amusing is our member jap here with his posts almost always brings with references to AA and at least 50% compare AA stats with WBF. In fact "jap" asked that I remove his name from membership last year. I told him all he needs to do is stop posting. He didn't and he still plays this little game of stats here. FWIW, I would bet money that the admin who owns AA would ban the member after the first post of such a kind.

You guys crack me up. Pass the Kool Aid

It must be getting late here. I don't understand your Kool Aid comments.

Strange. I get PMs and Friend Requests too but haven't ever paid a dime. Yikes! Now I might!
