The set up has a long way to go, but the video shows the musicality the system is still bringing out, the dynamic range, and the nuances of the music as each musical line resolves and floats out easily.

It’s beautiful… the music comes through effortlessly… well seemingly effortless which of course completely camouflages just how much effort has gone in over at Bills. Very much loving the pathway he has taken and amazing to think there is more to unfold ahead for him.

Playing the DGG original source at Bill’s today while testing a new DET 25 10 watt amp from Vietnam that was sent across to me for a compare by Glide3 from the US west coast. I prefer the Sheherazade excerpt (the 4th movement).
Regarding the 7th of Beethoven, although I can't stand lifted-up or emphasized treble in sound reproduction, I wonder if I wouldn't prefer just slightly more treble on this one; especially here (YT at 98sec). But it flows and is expressive.

regarding the slightly discrete treble, it reminds me of the Beethoven 7th I heard in Antwerpen the 13th of March, conducted by Jaap van Zweden: the concert hall has a very good acoustics in the 10 first rows, but I sat too far away for that concert (18th row), and found that the sound was slightly dull there (compared to row 8 and 10), maybe due to the fact that the slope of the pit, in front of the stage, may not be quite steep enough (=>absorption). The outstanding Namur Concert Hall does not suffer from that pitfall.​

But AFAIU, the system has still "more to unfold ahead".

The Scheherazade is the 2nd, not the 4th, movement.

did not see any issue on less treble here in room either, especially at 98 seconds where the music is still rising.

I didn't like the sound quality at all. Maybe it's better than original but piano sounds a little bit bright and rolled off. I don't know how it's possible to be both bright and rolled off at the same time. I listened to the digital version from Qobuz as well. Not as dynamic as Lp but piano sounds ok. I think there is something wrong with mixing (4 track to 2 track) or mastering/cutting of this release, maybe all original source series. I strongly recommend you to listen piano carefully if you have this one.

I have the original release of this LP. I think it was recorded in a rather dry acoustic, or maybe they did not pick up much of the reverberant field. I think it has to do with the original recording and so I did not buy this one.
On the other hand, I bought the Mahler 5th, and I think it is very well done. The sound is very spacious, with good definition, excellent dynamics and the bass has weight, unlike the original release. It is very clean, with very quiet vinyl. I know it is a cliche, but it does sound close to my master tapes. Much closer than the typical LP. I still prefer the Barbirolli EMI performance, at least for the first three movements; the Karajan sounds too manicured. A Mahler symphony should wear its emotions on its sleeve. The last two movements however are great. This Mahler 5 LP has done away with the Kindertotenlieder that was on the original, and therefore they were able to cut wider grooves and avoided getting too close to the center. This really helped with the dynamics, bass response and distortion.

I notice that on the official DGG web store, they also sell vinyl of Mercury Living Presence recordings. Does anyone know who remastered these ? Are they also from Emil Berliner studio ?

I listened Emil Gilels on another setup. This time it’s much better, like digital version but more dynamic. I’m still not fully convinced about the tone of piano.

interesting thanks. The Beethoven 7 had high dynamic range on all, sometimes too high, it had quite good tone on two on woodwinds and cello, digital on one, and very good bass and weight. Strings could have been better. Very quiet. Overall excellent combined with the performance, except in the one where it sounded digital. Quite a chameleon though

Yes I definitely suggest getting the DGG original source, the performance is also excellent

you could additionally apart from buying this DGG LP listen to vinyl rips of the following, which is streamed to a live small speaker it headphones will sound better than 95 percent of the systems. Not good LPs though.

1. Konwitschny version which of my favorite. Listen straight through at least till the end of the second movement if you sit down to hear it. Second movement starts at 15ish minutes.

2. Toscanini’s 1936 and 1939 interpretations of which the latter is on 78s. So much forward driving energy for those who have a misconception of older performances compared to new

Mine came packed well (better than DG packaging).
Non of the records arrived damaged or warped.
