The new audiophile vinyl series The Original Source from Deutsche Grammophon (AAA)

Rheingold is available too, I found it. BTW, anyone here bought these limited editions? What about the sound, compared to original edition?

I've got to say.... I'm a little bit excited :D I just placed an order from the E'lusive Disc for both the Beethoven 7th and the Mahler 5th lp's.... They have them in stock right now! Get em while you can...plus I received free shipping on my order

Best wishes,
Don
Wowza! I placed my order on Tuesday night and I received the order today already :) They arrived in pristine condition... no bent edges, no warping. I cleaned them tonight, but am not able to listen to them yet as we are currently having thunderstorms and I always unplug my stereo components when storms are in the area. Hoping for better weather tomorrow!

Best wishes,
Don

Happy listening Don :)

I''m curious, which lp's of this The Original Source Series, that have either already been issued or will be issued, do you think will offer the best performances and the best recording sound quality and be most worth while in having?

Thanks much and best wishes,
Don

What about the sound [of those 2022 LPs], compared to original edition[LPs]?
[Regarding the Solti's Wagner recording reissue on LP & SACD/CD - details starting at post #286]

Actually, Tracking Angle analyses that topic too (long article):
Mark Ward says that they are very good (but not as good as the SACDs, he says). Nevertheless, he seems to like very much the 90's version of "the vinyl reissue of Das Rheingold and Die Walküre put out by King Super Analogue Disc and Cisco Music".

We had a brief pause in the thunderstorms and it allowed me the opportunity to listen to both the new Beethoven 7th and the Mahler 5th recordings.
I found them to be both very enjoyable to listen to. Both records were completely flat and silent, absent of any tics or pops ( with the exception noted below) and neither were off centered as well! Both recordings were very full and dynamic with big swings, especially the Mahler.... hang onto your hat with that one cause it's gonna take you for ride ;) I especially enjoyed how the Mahler recording was able to capture the hall acoustic.

I was a little nervous when I first played the Mahler. Right after the fanfare in the beginning of side 1, there must have been a stuck piece of debris from the manufacturing process of the record, where it wouldn't let the stylus move on to the next groove. It passed 3 times with a loud pop by the time I could get over and lift the cartridge/arm up. I did another quick quick cleaning with my VPI record cleaner and this time it played all the way through all 4 sides without a single tic or pop! I'm very happy that the VPI was able to remove the debris.

I feel that both of these records are certainly worth having and am glad I was able to get them. Thank you to all the members here that have been commenting on this new series. I'm looking forward to getting more from the series as they become available.

Looking forward to reading more experiences from all of you with the various releases from this series.

Best wishes to all,
Don

I noticed that the Elusive Disc no longer has the Beethoven or Mahler lp's in stock anymore. These Original Source Series from DG must be very popular right now. I feel very lucky that I was able to get mine during the brief window that they had some.

I have just placed a pre-order tonight for the Brahms Piano Concertos with Music Direct that is supposed to become available in early August. I'm curious to how it will sound compared to my Living Stereo Rubinstein/Fritz Reiner CSO lp.

These are certainly some fun times right now for us analog lovers :)

Best wishes to you all,
Don

Interesting conversation with Sidney Meyer who was involved with the DG remasters. She also trained under Kevin Gray for six weeks to sharpen her skills

Thank you for sharing this video with us! I found it very interesting to hear directly from Sidney and her thoughts about this recording process, etc.

I only bought the Mahler 5th. It is definitely one of the best modern LP reissues I have heard of any recording. The surface is very quiet, and there is no distortion. The dynamics, which is considerable in this recording, is well preserved with no hint of compression. The hall ambiance is very well presented, and there is good image depth and specificity. As a performance, I still prefer the EMI Barbirolli rendition, but the sound quality of my original EMI box set is far inferior to this one. This reissue is also far superior to the original release, which also included the Kindertortenlieder. The mastering engineer was able take advantage of having 26 minutes less music and significantly increased the dynamic headroom, as well as avoiding cutting too close to the center. There is no distortion at all throughout the whole piece. A very worthwhile purchase. I look forward to more releases.

at last, they arrived!

Strange all four of the titles released in June are still available, but all the August titles are already listed as sold out on various sites.
