Just played the Ma Vlast. Sides 2 and 4, man o man, those inner grooves are tight to the label. Squeezing the goodness. Happily, no tracking issues. This, plus the Beethoven so far, again hugely impressed with the sonics, as with all the others in the range. Worth every penny.

I've been disappointed with some reissues recently (the new Steely Dans have left me a bit non plussed). But these LPs are truly spectacular.
I cannot imagine not buying any of them as the series continues.

my box of 3 just arrived (Berlioz, Ma Vlast, and Gulda Mozart), so i have 8 titles so far. had to buy the Verdi from Amazon, should have it next week. and Acoustic Sounds supposedly is shipping the Gilels Brahms to me sometime this month (paid for it in June).

listening to the Berlioz right now, liking it so far.

i did enjoy the Mahler just fine last time i listened, i'll try it again later.

Any other «modern» master would use dsp reverb. Oh horrors!
That said, the necessity of added reverb on a Boston SH recording must be due to microphone placement.
It does seem surprising that they would want to add reverb given the quadraphonic 4 track recording. The rear channels were meant to capture ambiance and surround sound (as it was understood in the 70s).

On my system, the symphonic works portray the reflections from side and back of the venue.

Buying from overseas - I'm based in Switerland - is usually expensive, due to the shipment cost, which is higher than the record...
Others look like second hand (condition ? why are they for sale ??) - or are also on "pre-order only."

Urs
Urs,

Discogs showed sellers in Europe. Some folks buy the records simply to resell for a profit. Especially with limited edition issues or reissues.

What one (or at least I) wants a recording to do is to create an illusion. If that includes adding reverb any other trickery then fine.
I have been involved in producing simple choral recordings and it better to place the mics borderline close and fix it in the mix. The opposite cannot be fixed.

With the receipt of the Gilels TOS, the Beethoven sonatas are coming along nicely. I also have the Kamiya Apassionata somewhere.

I *really* wish DG would send confirmation emails. It's hugely frustrating not to be certain an order has gone thru.
Great music, not so great bureacracy.

Can I use one of your cards next time? Would really appreciate it. Might have to change the default delivery address details.
