The Two Amigos Ride Again- A 15,000 mile vacation of a lifetime

we spent the afternoon at the pool and spa as we got ready for another amazing dinner at Ostu di Dijun in Castagnito (Biker Bar) which was a short walk down the hill from the hotel. Marty had dined there before and stated it was very unique but nothing fancy. There is no choice of what to eat. There is probably a 12-14 course dinner chichis brought continuously to your tables and everyone shares with everyone in the restaurant including everyone's wine

We also spent the afternoon touring the castle

Day 3 Barbaresco Day and wine tour Marchesi di Gresy

This winery was Marty's first choice

This is a huge winery and we were hosted by a young lady who was a level lll sommelier. She knew her stuff. Problem for me was this sampling involved 9 different bottles of wine some of which we put some serious dents in. I found for my palate the 1997 that we sampled was fabulous. I was hammered. Not being a drinker I found that even small sips of these samples put me over the top.

Dinner that night was at a Michelin Star rated restaurant and a 20 minute bus ride from our hotel

La Ciau del Tornavento in Treiso

The food here for me was to die for and worth every penny however so much else was wrong with the restaurant. The sommelier was young and inexperienced and wine flights were served incorrectly. The women's toilet was a mess according to our wives with water all over the floor and no tissue. Also the view was so spectacular that the panoramic windows were left open for people to get up and stroll. The problem however was the smoking which blew all the smoke into the restaurant and tainting our noses and palettes. Also bugs gained easy entry to the restaurant and found their way into our food.

It seems that this is a common review for this otherwise fabulous restaurant with great food and presentation but lacking elsewhere

Just caught up with this thread, WOW! What an amazing trip guys!
