Tobian Soundsystems - Switzerland

Yeah. For sure. I think the 12FH is the real sweet-spot product in their line up.

I LOVE the 12FH's.

If it were my money I'd buy the 12FH's and spend the difference on buying a pair of Clarisys speakers (instead of the Tobian SE's) as well and having the best of both worlds in speaker designs.

now that I think about it, the Tobian Sound Systems 12 Signature Edition horn speakers are exceptional speakers, at my best, and I've had quite a few gears here...
is there anything better?
I don't think in terms of absolute performance but perhaps personal taste, I can think of the ROCKPORT ORION but they cost around 200 thousand euros, or the TAD reference that largely exceed 120 thousand euros or the Alsyvox that in the top model are almost a dizzying cost, but not in absolute performance!

Glad to hear/see that - we are in the same boat of happiness  . Which amps you use with them?

It would appear that we even share the same server as Lucas Audio Lab! Wow this is starting to get interesting :cool::cool:

It's as though the two of you have a mini audio club. haha

I'm driving my 12FH with a solidstate integrated from Audionet (watt), which is being fed by a tube DAC (LTA Aero) and an Antipodes K21 streamer. The K21 sounds great, but I'm not sure I can live with its app options. I'm a fan of Innuos Sense app -- might have to replace the Antipodes with an Innuos Pulsar. Also thinking about picking up a second integrated amp -- a tube based. Still exploring. NAT looks interesting.

Hi Guys,
I heard the Tobian 12FH at flax 2022 show with, Lampizator Horizon, Vac monster et al.
Great sound in that room!
Has anyone compared a good SS system on these speakers vs all the tubes I usually see?

I have and I will have a video coming out in the next week or so with the Accupahse E-5000 on them vs. my normal VAC tube amp.

If you use a cold and sterile sounding solid state amp it will not be a good match (IN MY OPINION).

When you start getting into a more musical and less clinical sounding solid state set up, it improves dramatically.

Having said that, if your preference is the more clinical sound, they can certainly deliver that with certain electronics.

Hope that helps.

What is your opinion on Esoteric Grandioso S-1 amp as far as neutral, clinical or warm?

Hope that helps.

I have in that I own a pair of 12FH and a high-end, SS integrated in Audionet Watt. I would characterize the Audionet Watt as neutral sounding amp.

Although my combination sounds quite good, I'm in the process of exploring tube integrated amps in the 20-30w range. Should be interesting.

I don't know if I have heard that one to be honest with you but I have not been a fan of the Esoteric in the past as it sounds sterile to me. But even if I had it's such personal opinion it wouldn't be very helpful for you.

I looked at your profile and it looks like you have the Antipodes K50. I have the K22/K41 combo and that sounds great on the Tobians.

If you are in the US call Mike @Suncoast Audio (the importer) and tell him the Greek sent you. He has them in the store now with a variety of electronics and he can help you with more detail on what electronics sound like on the 12FH's.

Thank you. Yes I have known Mike for a good while and have been down to his shop.

I have rhe 12FHs and use it with the Elekit 8600 300b tube amp that I built and a Lampizator Pacific solid state amp. Both sound fantastic and I really don’t have a preference. The speakers work with both of them.

Knowing Gunter personally and his sonic direction preferences it needs to be taken into account that all his speaker designs are "voiced" with DHT tubes in the entire chain - from his DHT DAC, DHT Pre and DHT amps. Hence speakers deliver most seducing results driven with the tubes.
They of course deliver with SS as well great results but with their super reveling nature, some SS amps might be just too much. Actually currently I'm having built a very very special SE SS amp which operates only in pure class A with around 10W of power (which is more than sufficient for my Signatures), no negative feedback and super small damping factor which his speakers love (all advised by Gunter). I heard them singing with the prototype on wooden board and I was in pure love. So my Nagra VPA will have a more than decent run for the money during summer hot months as I just can't use them due to the heat they dissipate.
What I would say is also that FirstWatt could be a winning SS match for this speakers as it is close to SET sound.

I hope this helps as well :)
