Theres definitely something special about horn speakers . I absolutely love them.
Got the AERs into the big boy horn. Have listened to quite a few LPs and tape to get a handle on things. Crossover point was dropped from 170 down to around 110hz for now.
Quite surprised with the findings so far:
> The big horn has increased the efficiency of the system quite noticeably. Not measured yet but would guess a couple of dB at least. The system sounds more dynamic and punchy as a result with a kind of effortless ease
> The upper treble is more extended and I can hear quite a lot more insight across the entire frequency spectrum.
> The upper bass / lower mid have a lot more texture and density. You notice most on male vocals or cello.
> The scale is overall larger in all dimensions
> The bass integration is more seamless. As a result the timing of the system has improved.
> Finally the tone of jazz drum kits has taken a leap. The skin of the drum can be heard and felt

God damn it, Bill. Stop trying to improve on perfection Lol. Your previous sound was already super impressive on any number of parameters, now there's...even more.

Yes one really don’t know exactly how it will turn out until you actually do it. You can do all manner of simulations and even build prototypes as I did, but no substitute for actually building it and doing extensive listening.
Aint that the truth .. you find out that the dip in on axis that you agonised about forever is completly trumped by constant directivity (as stated geddes and linkwitz but you never know the relative values they were working with) + the improvement in a change in crossover as you have does not show up in measurements etc. etc .
It would be handy to have one of those rooms that dynaudio have

Just spent last few hours testing more music. Just concluded the session with a lot of orchestral and finished with Henri Honegger doing the Bach suites.
Orchestra sounding very expansive and with lots of weight and layering. The string section had a layered mass - quite hard to explain unless you go to concerts and know what I mean by that.
The Honegger Bach was fabulous. I am contentiously naming this my favourite of the Bach suites now lol.

It’s great that the beautiful big horn is sounding every bit as good as it looks. So much work to bring it together and to now be able to enjoy music through it and loving what you are hearing… that is fantastic news to hear Bill. I’d only say enjoy it but I think you already are.
Bill, to say I'm hugely anticipating the next visit is as understatement as they come. Your initial 170Hz horn is already my fave spkr of all time, consistent over every parameter including ones I didn't even know existed. For this 110Hz horn to take that initial slam dunk and add layers of additional goodness is hugely exciting.
My comparo for next visit will be my reasonably good memory of the Cessaro Liszt which main horns cross at 110-130Hz. If I get the visceral thrill listening to your horns that I got hearing the Liszts for the first time with the way more seamless and organic bass I'm already aware of from your design, I'll be beyond super impressed.

Honestly not sure what to think about the FC plan - I am treating it as a total punt. It was an itchy itch that I had to scratch tbh so no choice. That and Alexander can own any drivers he wants in the world so that gave me some more confidence. He has had all manner of the most exotic and extreme Goto and ALE drivers to mention but a few.
