Wbf best system under $30k

Once you guys come up with a top notch 30K system, we should get together and compare it with the system in my 10K system thread :)

I would love to compare that to my $10000 system :)

Yes your system would definitely move more air in the lower registers that's for sure. However matching subs are in the works for my recommendation that will likely be unreal using Accuton drivers.

Mike - Can you please not impregnate threads that have nothing to do with how great you think your digital front-end is, and keep those to appropriate threads only. It is becoming truly irritating.

This is a system recommendation for under $30000. Where does it say anywhere in the rules that digital isn't allowed?

Frantz's system is all digital as well.

That's not what I'm talking about, and you know it.

The OP says to start with speakers......what would be your choice?

Blizzard I think you made your point.

I've always loved the look and sound of Sonus Faber speakers, but admit it's been years since I last heard them. After reading Doug Schneider's review of the SF Olympica III ($13,500 USD) I'm convinced this is a speaker I could easily live with. So that's my choice.

Sonus Fabers are beautiful if you like a laid back sound. Hard to beat the beauty of their designs.

I was just asking for speakers at this point. I am impressed the suggestions so far are full range, amplifier friendly
and we'll under the limit.
Alas I have not heard any of them. I did hear the Magnepan 3.6 sans subwoofers.
They are excellent for jazz.
I don't know how the Harmon products sound. I am sure they measure well. I just think a frame (not a stand)is required for the Maggie. One company is Magnestand.

This thread is NOT about YOUR thread.......see if you can find it within yourself to stay within this threads' question.

Yeah well since I already made a thread, it's a bit easier to share that info than to retype it all here.

I do like their laid back sound, but these Olympica III's are a little closer to neutral than the older models. I've always been a fan of silk-dome tweeters.

I'll just nominate the system in my signature. List price a bit over $30k, but I bought it all new for a bit less.

I'd go for the Vapor Nimbus Black with all possible upgrades including the large Raal tweeter, should run $14k-ish. Joule would be an option, but I like the Nimbus' 15" woofer.

For amps a couple of Odyssey kismet monoblocks with all possible upgrade, this should run $6k-ish

Source, really too hard to say... maybe a preamp/DAC combo of some sort.

Cables... hmm, let me think here... ;)

This system would get you most of the way to the endpoint of what's best at a fairly reasonable price I think.

Great system! I've heard the Crescendos, very nice...

vivid B1 .. $15k
Devialet 200 .. circa $10k
2x SVS sb2000 subs $1.5 k
miniDSP DDRC 22 (DIRAC) $1k
Computer source ..$1k
Cables $1.5k

Simple , elegant , with room correction...

I have heard this system many times and it is amazing

An interesting "all encompassing" statement. Personally, I really think that you are beginning to show how very little actual experience you have with the
gear that is mentioned. I can absolutely assure you that neither the Guarneri's nor the Strads or the Amati's have a "laid back" sound. Oh, I forgot..you have
personally heard the Sf Guarneri Homages----even though so very few pairs even exist in the US!! As to the Strads or the Amati's...do tell where you have
happened to have heard these? Otherwise, perhaps less posting of your "informed...but uninformed" opinion:(. IMHO.

Every Sonus Faber speaker I've ever heard over the last 20 years all has a familiar house sound which is "laid back" I never said bad, I just said "laid back". I did hear some recently, but I'm not sure what the model was, and again, the same laid back house sound. Even the review posted here said they have a laid back sound. So unless Sonus faber decided to completely change their house sound, and the reviewer is a liar, I can imagine these wouldn't be much different. Also looking at the cone material, I can see they are similar to the rest of their line voiced for a softer laid back sound.

I actually heard this system not too long ago at Andre Marc's home...and it consisted of
1) Bryston Mini T's
2) ARC VS 55 integrated
3) Sim audio NEO 650 DAC
4) Server of choice...
5) Dave C's excellent Zenwave cables.

Way below $30K and very very impressive.

Perhaps you can 'enlighten' us as to the particular SF model you heard. BTW, looking at the cone material on SF's is not going to really tell you how they sound. Unless you believe that a silk dome sounds "soft"!! FYI, there are any number of ways to make just about any type of speaker sound "laid back"....change the front end gear feeding it and you can do this with little problem.
