If you have not already read it. "Symphony for the City of the Dead: Dmitri Shostakovich and the Siege of Leningrad" may be of interest. At least until the soft buffer of intellectual confrontations dealing with Solomon Volkov. Where the narrative starts being geared towards spinning immature minds back out in the right direction.
