One of the best performances IMO. A very good sounding LP and would be great with a little more bass heft.

Surprisingly low-key performances, especially by Ricci, and decent but not great sound. All in all, not an essential purchase.

Trying to finish full traversal of the Scarlatti box. Started early 2012, got interrupted 2/3 way in and then totally forgotten. Suddenly remembered last month and getting close to done now. Probably a couple more weeks.

As for the Telemann, the key point there is the Madeuf brothers playing natural trumpet and horn. That is, no valves *and* no vent holes. Trumpet is especially bad as the intonation can't even be fiddled using hand-stopping like on natural horn. Recording of natural trumpet not sounding weird is very rare. This is one of them.

The same cast is also on La Petite Bande's recording of Bach's Orchestral Suites. A very good HIP version. Check it out if you like that kind of thing:

Interestingly, there is a photo in the booklet of the above with Sigiswald Kuijken wearing a violoncello da spalla. The instrument is not listed in the orchestral suite album but he has recorded the complete Bach cello suites with it:

The shoulder-cello has some very distinct characteristics. Check it out if you're into obscure historical instruments.

I have this one from him...and a few viola da gamba...

Is this a different one? Certainly sounds promising...

Am enjoying the latest Leonidas Kavakos and the B violin concerto... here the B is also for both bountiful and beautiful. Lovely.
