Crazy hypothetical…

So you are shipwrecked on a desert island but you managed to salvage your stereo, R2R, and a limited number of tapes as the ship was sinking. Which ten tapes did you grab?

Curious about what has the most impact on you by performance, sound quality, or both.

The reason I never got into tape is that most people I know who have tape machines have less than 100 tapes. At $500@ that's a ridiculous handicap and limitation for me to listen to the greatest music of the world. However, I admit that when it's good, it is a damn impressive experience indeed.

A good audiophile only needs two records: one for bass, and one for female voice. They both only need to be about 15 seconds long.

Wow, Metallica - ...and justice for all is their best album. Was the tape a commercial 7.5ips release? or for radio station? how does it stack up against vinyl/cd/cassette reelase? can you actually hear the bass?

Desert Island Discs allows the guest to choose 8 tracks. The 8 Desert Island Tapes from my personal collection:

David Bowie - Ziggy Stardust
Michael Jackson - Off The Wall
Steely Dan - Aja
George Michael - Faith
Dr Feelgood - Down By The Jetty
Beatles - Sgt Pepper's
The Who - Who's Next
Dusty Springfield - Dusty in Memphis

If I could only save one tape, it would be my copy of Down By The Jetty signed by my friend Wilko Johnson. Wilko and I became great friends after his illness and I have many happy memories of the fun times we had together. I spoke at his funeral earlier this month and I will miss him dearly.
