What is an audiophile ?

Funny coming from someone who knows he can take a great picture from a disposable camera picked up at Longs or Walgreen but owns tons of the latest and greatest cameras and lenses. Maybe he's a photophile.

so how many here ponied up for the $5 donation?

Not I.

An audiophile will waste days comparing the sound of power cords or different kinds of solder, but won't even notice that his speakers are out-of-phase.

I don't want to say anything negative about his thoughts, so I will say this. I had to chuckle when I read the quote above. Too funny....and unfortunately true in some cases.

He had some things to say that I could agree with and many I do not. He did however totally lose my interest in reading further when he mentioned the word pedophile to make a disgusting comparison.

ken Rockwell is a piece of work. Anyone who is seriously into photography knows this guy and doesn't take him too seriously. He is a wack job, IMO.

I am into photography and he is very well known for debatable statements. I think he likes to write things that can have lots of echo: it's a kind of publicity by itself and, in the end, he's considered a kind of guru in the photoworld.

Notwithstanding, he's describing a kind of character that I've seen, in Italy, at many hi-end events. People with no interest in music that are into audio equipment exist. BTW, this kind of profile exists in photography too, or whatever can be a technology-related hobby.

The point is that his generalization is just unfair to many music lovers who also prioritize the best possible quality of music enjoyment.

my only issue with the article is that he over-generalizes. going by his definition, i am not remotely close to being an audiophile, but in my circles i am primarily viewed as one.

Happily I still remembered from the last time someone posted about this site in WBF - it spared my time.

I hope that those who find it interesting and learned about audio from it make have made their generous donations. ;)
