What turntables do you use? Pictures would be nice as well :-)

If you look closely you can make out a removable block already in place that would afford that facility, a rather smart looking plinth imho .
That's correct, a 12" Schick arm will move over from the Sikora and go in that spot to host a Miyajima Infinity Mono cart. The Sikora will be getting a Supatrac Blackbird where the Schick is now.

'Breitstrahlgruppe' sortof(!) for the Trionor build in the background....working hard to get the speaker build finished....testing hide glue hamer veneer tomorrow...20250110_233647.jpg

Wow that's an amazing performance. The Metronome pressing goes for over a 1000, the capitol one is sane prices.

Very nice indeed Marcel , I had a 70D for a little while, however it had been led a hard life and the upper and lower flexible coupling assembly’s and main vertical drive shaft were not in the best of health … I was hoping to get it playing something like this :

this is a Capitol, and I found it quite reasonably priced (nowhere near 3 digits for a near mint) ...listening to it I think it's a great deal! What a recording, and what a performance!

The Sibelius Violin concerto is one of my fave pieces, and I always preferred the Ferras (Karajan) version....(have that on mono too) ...this is WAY ahead of that performance!

The power of those machines is incredible...

The couplings are not that hard to refurbish to be honest, I still need to redo the bronze 33 RPM bearings (have those in house waiting to get around to get them fitted) but the 78 RPM main shaft is totally revamped with an ultra precision SKF bearing (0.008% wow)....the 33 RPM is still off...it runs fast (33.6 rpm) and wow is around 0.13% due to the bronze bearing wobble.

did i say the power of that machine is ridiculous? I have quite some Janos Starker Solo performances on Period record, and boy does that sound sweet!

Can't wait until my Trionor build is done....I'm playing with veneering using hide glue for the flares right now....

I concur , the weight and breadth of tone and texture imparted to the body of violoncello , viola and violin were quite something to behold , Bravo Marcel , you make me wish that I had persevered .

there are others out there ;-)
yet from what I know now it may well be that any of the other 16"transcriptions beasts have a similar trait (we will be comparing 3 of them in a while)

There are indeed , such as Fairchild 531-A , Rek-0-Kut B-16-H , Gates M-5202 , Presto T68 , Robinson LP/SP 16" , Commonwealth 12D , to name but a few.

Whilst some favoured an Idler mechanism to drive the platter , some large single some large double belt , there seems to be a commonality of hugely engineered drive train mechanisms driven by a Mahoosive motor and coupled with gearing mechanisms that wouldn’t look amis in a small motor vehicle .

That commonality appears to impart a sense of compelling weight , scale , gravitas and sheer driving force into a recording .

These “ transcriptions beasts ” as you put it are serious fun if one has the time and the room for them , particularly if one likes a gear shift on one’s turntable :0}

My guess is that the 'transcription' part is the reason for the massive drive train, cutting a lacquer will require some torque.

The RCA uses a squared of center spindle IMHO for gripping the acetate transcription disc securely, one day I may find the transcription parts....

After nearly 6 month, still faczinating about the new Luxman.
For my opinion, the desk/arm is able to provide the „best“ of the mounted cartridge - better than the DPS3 and the StSt Motus can do.

Only one thing you keep in mind:
The motor is not completely silent - you can hear a quiet “whirring” sound during operation if you stand directly next to the turntable.

atb, Tom

Glad to hear you are still enjoying it and to hear that you prefer it to the other options you have tried.

I'm now quite excited about the Luxman. Interesting about the 'whirring'. I demo'd one yesterday and didn't notice it but maybe I was not paying attention.

Like you, I will be using a Dynavector cart although quite a step-down from yours, with an xx2 mk2.

I love the Sibelius also. I am long ago smitten by Hilary Hahn. There is an interesting video on YouTube of her playing that piece solo to a small audience. I believe in Paris. Just before she does the evenings concert with the orchestra.
