What's Spinning Tonight?

It's a JJ Cale night. "Really". Vinyl by Shelter Recording, this is my original from around 1972. I heard the song, "Lies" on the radio back then and have been a fan ever since.

Moving up to 2007's JJ Cale, "Rewind", vinyl by Star Vista/Crazy Mamas Music. These songs are unreleased from over the years on previous albums.

Got enough time for an album, maybe two before I have to get ready to go to a party. I'd just as soon sit here and crank out the tunes, but one must keep the wifey happy. Listening to Steve Earle and the Dukes (& Duchesses), "The Low Highway". New West Records, 33&1/3. A 2013 release. Good stuff.

Now up is Leo Kottke, "Ice Water". This piece of vinyl is my original version from way back in 1974. Great sound, silent background, incredible guitar and a frog singing. What more could you ask for?

Only a few more minutes of listening, so now enjoying classical via my new to me tuner. I heard a tick, so I know the station is playing vinyl. Since I'm so ignorant regarding classical, I don't know the name of the tune I'm listening to, but I remember it as, "Hello Fada, Hello Mada, Here I Am at Camp Granada", as sung by some comedian in my youth. Just found out it is "Dance Of The Hour" from Fantasia.

How refreshing to read a post about listening to a tuner. I listen to a lot of music on the BBC FM radio stations 2 and 3, popular and classical respectively. Really great sound quality through a Magnum Dynalab 109 and very good external roof mounted aerial.
Be interested to hear what choice of stations you have in Texas.

Cruising to this album (high-res download version from Blue Coast):

Barry, I'm fortunate to live in the Austin area, which is known around here as the live music capital. Even if there are other places that have more live music venues, we still have more than most. We have stations here that play a lot of the local music, which most cities, in my experience do not have. While we have the common classic rock, top forty pop, top forty country, heavy metal, top forty indie, etcetera, we also have a great public radio station and a very good classical station. I vary my listening between several stations.

Thanks Steve.
Yes I have heard good things about the music scene in Austin and glad to hear that you are also well served by radio stations.
Regards,
Barry

Time for a little post bop piano trio/quartet with New Stories, "Speakin' Out". Redbook. Nice groove to this album.
