Who’s going to the Florida International Audio Expo?

Will be there- my first audio show. Funny, I’ve done a lot of B2B Tech shows as a vendor for many years so being a customer will be an oddity for me. New to the hobby and not sure what to expect. I’m a musician, but this is new. I’m in the hunt for a new MC cartridge, potentially a backup phono preamp for one I’m waitlisted on, ideas for my next turntable upgrade, maybe some tonearms if I go that rought. Maybe a DAC / streamer, but working in tech as my day job I’m enjoying keeping my audio hobby analog. We’ll see. At the end of the day I like to learn new things and tinker so looking forward to some inspiration. Oh, and I live in Tampa.

Poking around this evening. Wanted to mention the big Clarisys powered by VAC, MSB Cascade and top of the line Pink Faun should be heard. I believe it will be even better as the weekend progresses.
The Scott Walker room is running Vitus bi-amped Estelon Extreme’s. ART treatments and a reel to reel tape deck. The system sounds phenomenal to my ears. I’m an Estelon guy.
The tape deck is a must listen experience. Don’t miss it. An amazing analog experience.
Looking forward to tomorrow.

Popspin, you want to touch base sometime early tomorrow before the show starts?

Yes. Is breakfast on yoiur schedule? If not we can meet in the lobby.
I’m on the 5th floor. Bonvoy club member. I’ll be in the little lounge / eating space in 10 minutes with a short cute woman. (Yes, it’s my wife! :D )

Morning: I’m with the low rent guests on the 3rd floor. Regular breakfast for me. Grey t shirt. Blue shorts. We will find a way…I’m solo on this trip.

IMG_3726.jpegAgree with Popspin, this room was exceptionally luxurious to my ears. However, for me the Clarisys Atrium room ruled the roost. The Pink Faun dual 2.16 Ultra streamer into the MSB Cascade DAC was magical. Best streaming I have heard. IMG_3723.jpeg

Nice setup, Mike and Florian. I'm sorry to have missed hearing the big Clarysis ribbons. They must be spectacular! Have a great show, men. I'll see you in a little over a week, Mike.

Yes, Tony, that combination in the Clarisys room was excellent. I spent time with Pink Faun and am most impressed with their quality and attention to detail. They appear to be executing this new Taiko alternative with great ideas and a no limits approach. I was able to see their prototype MSB fiber connection that will slide into any MSB USB slot and allow the PF server to eliminate the USB connection.
The Cascade DAC, which I heard in the MSB room and 2 others, including this one, was also impressive. Different than the existing models. Nicely detailed and more organic. Soundstage was huge on the Clarisys. No rough digital edges to be found.
I am more a box than panel guy so my preference would be to match the MSB and Pink Faun with the Estelon’s.
BTW, the Sonorus tape deck in the Scott Walker Estelon room was simply another level of playback. Beyond anything I’ve heard in the analog realm. Expensive tapes but oh my, what a presentation!!

We tend to focus on higher end equipment. Even “value” equipment isn’t inexpensive.
Luca Chesky (yes, son of…) in his late teens was showing his <$1,000 per pair of bookshelf speakers. Including associated front end equipment from Cambridge, the system total was about $6,500! Very musical and fun. Wish I had this option when I was younger.
I think he has a good contact for demo material…

I've owned one of the Sonorus tape decks for about a year now and have collected about 35 of his tapes ... all are equally amazing. I agree it is next level and nothing I've ever heard can compare.

Nice meeting you!

I’m sorry, but this is so ironic yet so telling of audiophilia. There’s a live jazz group playing here in the lobby of the hotel, as part of the after hours activities, and there are literally four of us listening to live music. Three other rooms are playing recorded music heard dozens of times by practically every audiophile, on systems they’ve probably already heard at least once or twice so far during the show. There are probably 20 times as many people combined in those rooms, if not more.

A stark reality of what’s important to most audiophiles. I’m sorry if this comes off as accusatory, but is listening to the same old recorded music coming out of a pair of speakers that much more important?

Flamethrowers on, I guess.

Yup that's sad. Thanks for the story.

Enjoy the live music!

Kudos to Gary Koh. Those that know what I mean? Well they know.
