ying and yang--Lamm ML3 and darTZeel 458

In other words...you listen to digital on average 75% of the time ? Very surprising.

yes; but 25% of my listening time, is still an hour to two hours a day most days. and close to 100% when i have visitors. it's just that i have so much digital listening time. not that i lack analog listening time. and it explains why i went all-in on the digital side of things, and why messing with arms and carts is lower on my priorities.

when i'm retired and job-think is not an issue, my format balance could change. the music serves my personal life situation (and enables me to keep my head right), my life does not fit around the music.

indeed. No need to give up on live amplified rock music though...you can simply buy some ear plugs with variable dB attenuation adjustment. They save your ears and you can still enjoy the full frequency range (mostly) of the performance (not muffled). $50 gets you a satisfactory set.

Agreed and if you have any intention of hearing any high end or cymbals its mandatory.
Go to any large venue amplified concert and check the sound boards ears, they are not stupid, and yes I know they are not just ear plugs.
I don't do sound hangovers any more.

Went to a Scorps concert years ago at the Los Angeles Forum and found myself sitting about 50 feet out dead center in front of stage left house stacks. Immediate trip to first aid for ear plugs before the show even started.

Apologies, back to the subject at hand...

Well this makes much more sense to me based on your investment level with digital. If I were to guess in my case, 85% LP, 10%Tape and 5% Digital (Mostly live recordings I have made or Grateful Dead) it has been a long while since I listened to a digital version of something I have on analog. No right or wrong here. Interesting.

Hi-FiGuy, the last straw for me on live rock was Rush on the Clockwork Angels tour at London O2. It was so sad to see a band that had always prided themselves on some sort of fidelity live, accept the worst common denominator.
Now I’ll only see rock bands in smaller venues.

Same here except my tape % is closer to 60% and LP 35%.

If it wasn't for live music I don't know if I would listen to any digital music.

big tubes

look what the cat dragged in.....

a friend read about how was i enjoying moderately powered tube amps, and thought I might enjoy dipping my toe into 'big tubes' so offered to allow me to sample his VAC Statement 450 mono blocks. I will hook them up tonight or tomorrow. they are very heavy. picked them up last night.

many have pushed me to try this, and so how could I refuse his offer? it's about having fun? right? and I might learn something too.

Wow wow wow.

Selfishly I am very glad you are checking out those amps, Mike! The 450 iQs are a high-power contender for me (thanks to Leif and others).

This is going to be VERY interesting (for you and for us)! :D

That's one reason why I like WBF best; for being on the edge of avant-garde, in the constant pursuit of excellence. Audio is the search without destination but exploration. That's my view and anyone can diverge. Mike, you the man!

I bet Mike’s wife has an opinion on all this.
Not so much WBF as WTF!
