Zellaton: The End of My Speaker Journey

I assume you heard them at Gideon’s. What are the sonic characteristics that differentiate them from Goldmund? I had some high band width designs by Dale Pitcher, who was inspired by Goldmund and they were fantastic but somewhat fickle.
A little background. I did not hear these at Gideon’s. I was fortunate to be able to audition them in my own system. Although I was satisfied with the Goldmunds, Gideon called and said he would like to bring some equipment to audition. Myles Astor, with amazing generosity, offered his personal Soulution preamplifier and stereo amp for an extended audition. Therefore, I had the opportunity to spend about a week or so listening in my own room. After returning the system to Myles, I listened to the 500 series amp, and ultimately the 727 Preamp. So, I have a pretty good grasp on the Soulution family sound.

To answer your specific question, Soulution takes everything that I loved about Goldmund to a huge next level step-up. Quick comparison:
  • The low-end depth and resolution of Soulution is off the charts. The trite comment of hearing new information from old recordings is not a cliché with Solution, it's astounding. Nothing that I’ve ever heard comes close to Soulution bass.
  • Imagine taking the magical mid-range of the best tubes amplification with their deep rich tonal density and then add transparency and a sound stage that just makes the performers “appear” and you've got Soulution.
  • The top end is extended, detailed, but highly musical – much better than Goldmund (IMHO)
You mentioned high bandwidth. Apparently, that's part of the Soulution “secret sauce” in their design - especially the newest series. Bandwidth is insane (DC - 20MHz) allowing proper use of feedback with low distortion; but extraordinarily musical and involving.

So far Soulution has been stable and rock solid reliable.

Can't wait for the 717 amps and the 757 phono, from what I hear they are game changers.
