How can u stand the noise the NAS makes in your room? I have the same unit, located in my basement and the constant accessing of the drives noise would be a no go in my listening room.....

Have you turned on quiet mode. This in fact helps. I am only in my room to listen and with music playing it is a non issue. Yet having said that when the new speakers show up im debating about returning the NAS to the downstairs main router,. It is in our guest room and the noise bothers my wife I typically turn off the NAS when guests are in the room. I do have another option and that's to change the satellite outside my sound room from a plug 'n play to a satellite similar to what I use in my sound room which has ethernet ports. Right now it's a non issue but ........

Noise depends a lot on room acoustics. I a reflective, bare room anything can be a noise problem. Considering your nice acoustic curtains and rug I can easily imagine it is not an issue. BTW, IMO a pair of Quad ESL63 or derivatives would be an excellent preparation for the Zellaton's. Most of the time I switch to them between changes. In some ways they re-tune our ears ...

I have mine in Quiet mode and I can hear the NAS but not nearly the level at which I hear it in the downstairs bedroom. It is audible but not distracting

Well said! I go through the same exercise as well…., re-tuning to the purist holographic Quad or Acoustats with Futterman or Acoustat’s own OTL amps. Even with all their faults; easy to forgive.

Fan in quiet mode is not the noise I'm talking about, it's the actual storage drives being accessed
There is no way the NAS could be in the listening room unless there is another configuration I'm unaware of...

4 16Tb drives...no
Do 16Tb SSD drives exist?

Btw…, as we’ve naturally segued into Quads, here’s my modern interpretation of ESL63’s thanks to Musikwiedergabe in Germany

Well, now you have to offer Steve this particular Accent recording - it sounds great on Quad's . A goof friend sometimes accused me of "cheating" when playing it on the ESL63 - music to sell Quad ESLs, as he said. ;) I have also owned the three box ASR - the shown system is nicely balanced, probably with van den Hul cables (?) .

I can easily guess these Accent recordings will sound wonderful in Steve Zellaton's.

Actually, the wires are 1988 MIT Music Hose which balance well with the Quads. Yes…., they look similar to VDH but are more mid-centric playing into the Quad magic zone virtues.

I understand completely. The sound of the hard drives is indeed audible but it's not that loud
Steve, something you might want to consider - I had a similar issue with external HDDs some years back and made a little absorber that went around the enclosure leaving it partly open for air circulation. This made a huge difference in noise at the sweet spot.

as I am now playing the waiting game, I have been reflecting on my listening experience with this speaker that made it jump out at me and produce such a dramatically realistic sound

Up until just a few hours ago I have been under the impression that the "Mid" drivers in the Zellaton speakers are Mid range BUT they are not truly mid range drivers but rather a "Wideband" driver

In fact I just discovered this descriptor which is on the EVO page but talking to Gideon all "mid" drivers in Zellaton are wide band. I 'm sure this was a huge factor which drew me in

EVO mid-range chassis is individually tuned by hand using a complex process in order to mechanically eliminate any irregularities in the frequency response. It is therefore possible to cover the entire frequency spectrum from 150 Hz to approx. 7000 Hz with our ZELLATON EVO hard foam membrane, which is essential for a lifelike and realistic performance.

Interestingly, the midrange driver is almost full range with a response from 100hz to 8k, covering the majority of the listening range. With no crossovers or phase issues, this undoubtedly contributes to seamless presentation and exquisite midrange realism.
I read somewhere that the ultra driver for the "mid" goes down to 66 Hz

I think there is something special about wideband drivers that alleviate having to have a crossover right in the middle of the vocal.

High efficiency examples bring a lot of life and realism that many drivers cannot.

I remember the first time I heard Goodman Axiom 80's I was shocked. Further experiences with wideband driver lead me to build my speakers around such a unit. Interestingly enough, my crossover points are not too far away from the Zellaton Evo's at 170 Hz and 6000 Hz.

Having spent some time researching the Zellatons I suspect that they'll be a material step better than the Wilsons.

I am curious, were there any other speakers on your 'short list'?
