My Listening Room

But Phil

I need to ask you what those pair of NOS Tele's are

Steve, those are a pair of ECC83s with red tips (low noise selections) but I sold them a couple of years ago, but now that my new power amp needs a pair of those, I have to source them again.

And Jack, I would like to listen to your system again. And I would like to bring two cds that Gian gave me to play on your system.

Let's set a time Philip and Jack.

Yes Sam. Been fighting tinnitus since last year and cut down listening time but when the chance came to change my analog rig entirely after a friend bought my table/arm/ cartridge I decided to give it a go and chose a long-time dream to own a Linn Sondek. Then I realized this turntable is not the usual set it and forget it thing. There are many other factors that come into play with this and I had to join a Linn Sondek FaceBook group to learn this thing entirely. And now I am learning about the tonearm, and it is occupying much of my time. This is all part of the hobby. When all is settled and I am finally finished with the tweaking I hope to set a time for you and Jack to visit.

Thanks Christoph. Well, I am realizing it is a religion. :) When I posed questions in a Linn FB Users Group (4,600 members in 3 years time) like - should I use a clamp weight on the LP12, one guy said: "'you're going to get Ivor mad". :D And when I posted a picture of my Linn deck and arm with a non-Linn cartridge, someone said: "It's nice to see someone disregarding the Linn heritage". :) From that time on, I knew they were very serious about their Linns. But everyone was very very enthusiastic to help out in technical matters and a lot of them are 'experts' in tweaking and fiddling their LP12s. I am enjoying the ride so far, but I still am monitoring some aspects of its design. It's a pretty one to look at too while spinning. :)

Looks like you picked your poison deliberately and know your way around there :D
I'm glad you like it, despite the strong opinions of the Linn's high priests

Jadis,

You might make a trip to HK when times are safer there. Our friend Ken has two Linn Sondeks. You can listen to them and if you like what you hear, you can ask him about how he set up his Linns.

Oh really. That is great to hear. And I certainly will make it a point to visit and ask him some questions. The Sondek in its present incarnation is a very different thing in terms of its 'innards'. A lot of things have been added inside that wooden chassis I never thought it was possible to stuff all those things in. It took the dealer ( 2 men trained by Linn men who flew here) 6 hours to install and set up the Sondek, Linn arm and cartridge and they had to come back the next morning to fine tune it. There were like 5 of 6 boxes of 'parts' that when assembled became the Linn Akurate. There are 3 models in the Sondek series, mine is in the middle.

And this event started my 'thing' with the Linn. Ivor came to Manila in November 2012 and I attended and his talk impressed me so much I became always drawn to the Sondek from that time on. The distributor then did not have the middle tier model but only the entry level which did not have a speed control, and to pull out that pulley as I saw it was a pain to do so I passed in those times. Now the new distributor has all 3 models in their shop.

Hi christoph,

How are your system and golf game?
Not to be too OT but a quick answer should be ok I hope.
I added the subwoofer to the obove System and I think you would have liked it.
Regarding Golf: the round with you is still my one and only. Thanks for letting me tag along, I was a perfect day for me

No problem with any OT, Christoph.

Like you I had my one and only golf course attendance with Sam many years back. I was his guest in the golf village where he has a rest house and while I do not play golf at all, Sam was gracious to rent me a golf cart, and I was able to watch him play the golf holes, I forgot how many. :D
